Monstera fruit

We have several monstera that are flowering and fruiting. I have been told to wait until the first couple of segments begin to turn brown and then pick the fruit. It is then supposed to ripen gradually from one end, letting you eat a little each day.

I have had very little luck timing this. When I have gotten some ripe fruit it is very good, but I only get a few segments from any one fruit.

Any tips?

When I've tasted it I thought bananas and pineapple mixed, very sweet. Don't even try to eat it if the angular green husk isn't easily falling off, unripe fruit can cause oxalic acid reaction.

As can the sap! I can tell you from experience that getting the sap on you is not fun! Many people can be highly allergic like poison oak/ivy or mango rash.

The acid gets in under your skin, like a rash, and gets worse from there.
