Greetings and no I'm not back in the "online saddle" just borrowing a friends computer while waiting for the storm. I spent the entire day yesterday preparing for the storm and finally had a break at around 7:30p.m. Tired, wet and aprehensieve about what kind of spanking Flossie (Bossy Flossie) might dish out, I felt confident that we were at least as prepared as we could get. No real nerves just the fatigue of a long and stressful day. My nerves did not get rattled untill the microwave was dangerously close to being pitched to the floor after what sounded like a big BOOM! Honestly, it sounded like a stick of dinamite exploded and then a violet shake shake and a little roll or two and it was over. Thank God for that!! It is now 9:20p.m. Tuesday night in Hilo town with hardly a breath of wind and only sporadic rain. It sure beats watching the rain blow through the key hole of the front door and what shounds like a train trying to demolish the house. I must be nuts but even earthquakes and storms won't make me go back to the mainland! ;0)

"The earthquake triggered a small rock slide at the Laupahoehoe gulch, but a county road crew quickly removed the debris and the road stayed open, police Maj. Jay Enanoria said." from the trib.
Hey, I answered my own question.

I guess lately with the new flows moving I just assume it's down that way and part of the Pu'u O'o thing. I love those maps that show the quakes by hour, day, week...
Did you feel it this morning, Carey? just a good jolt here...with all this rockin' maybe I'll take a slow walk around the slap and take a look to see if it's been affected.

Kuma, the centipede killing dog, woke me up at 3am today, but did not want out as usual. A minute or so later, there was a quick shake that rattled the windows. Nothing at all like the other night, though. Kuma has done this before other earthquakes, but she also behaves this way sometimes when there's not one, so we don't necessarily see it as a predictor. Too bad she's inconsistent. We are going to start looking at the weblink for earthquakes in Hawaii to see if she is detecting some that we can't feel. Who knows?
Cheers,
Jerry

Did I say SLAP?! Haaaahaaa.... Slab. Ahem.
Jerry - my neighbors' cats made loud very strange noises the other night and about 5 mins later that large one hit...they are so smart.

Up here at Volcano, it shook our house enough to wake us up, even Oliver, the cat who sleeps through everything, around 3 a.m. Just a
3.8 though.

Ooops. I meant to just sign my name. The second link isn't related to the earthquake at all
(just my site). The first link:
http://tux.wr.usgs.gov/Maps/155.25-19.5.html
give continual updates of earthquakes on our island.
For those new to our rock 'n roll island, this page gives general descriptions of what the seismic effects are:
http://www.seismo.unr.edu/ftp/pub/louie/...itude.html
Each magnitude is 10 times the previous.
I want to visit Jaggar Museum and see what's up with Pele lately what with this increase in magnitude lately.
Aloha
