Hotel Recommendation Honolulu?

Would someone recommend a hotel in Honolulu that is a reasonable rate. We need a reasonably priced room and on short notice! LOL I know if wishes were horses!

The short notice plane tickets are astronomical for a 4 day emergency jaunt, so we're looking for reasonable hotel accommodations!

Good Morning my friend! Mella - if you go to Hotels.com you will probably find your best bet for under $100 per night...

I think if you just checked Outrigger, you might end up with something cheaper but a little on the more "rustic" side. That was our experience. We like rustic when is the Manago Hotel and we just wanna play at the beach, but somehow downtown Honolulu has a different kinda "rustic!" )

We have stayed at the Pagoda which has kama'aina rates for under $100. It's within walking distance of Ala Moana Center.

Because Hotels.com and Expedia, etc. charge the hotel 30% and they immediately take your money, if you have a problem they won't give you a refund or partial refund. They tell you to to contact Hotels.com. There is also generally a no refund policy which hotels don't have.

We used to do that kind of online booking for our bed & breakfast, Art & Orchids but no more and not only because of the money. We didn't have the person's e-mail address so couldn't send a confirmation letter with directions.

Once we had a couple show up when we were fully booked. They had a confirmation letter from Expedia for our place but we hadn't received any notification of it. When we finally reached them they said the couple "slipped through the cracks." We found them another place to stay but that was the last straw for us.

Thanks for your post Markie! It's so good to know when that kind of thing happens. As I found working at an airline and having to deal with Orbitz, Expedia, etc... They would tell their customers different rules than we allowed on our airline and it very often ended up in a heated call we needed to turn around. The hardest thing to deal with was that the employee for the company had no empowerment to help the customer so very often it landed on the airline, much like your B&B... Mahalo!

The Ohana group of hotels often has rates in Waikiki for well under $100, kama'aina, and sometimes non-kama'aina. I don't have their web address, but you can google them.

Jerry thanks for the heads up I'll look into the Ohana Group, but don't you have to be more than one for a group! Hehheh!

I did call one hotel, and whoops, we own property and of course pay Hawaiian property taxes, but don't qualify for kama'aina rates as we don't have local ID. Drat!

This is a business trip, not a luxury trip/vacation, only one of us coming over, so will try the Pagoda next.

Punatics are tops!

Hi Mella...

Whenever I need a reasonable, family hotel in HNL, I always stay at the Queen Kapiolani on Kapahulu Ave. They often have room&car packages for under $100. And they are located on the far end of Waikiki so you don't have to drive all the way through Waikiki to reach them; you just drive down Kapahulu to Waikiki. They're less than a block from the beach and across the street from the zoo and Kapiolani Park. They are very nice and accommodating; you can even get rooms with kitchenettes...the best deal on Oahu, gah-runs!

The Queen K is good. Pacific Beach Hotel is at that end too. Both have (or have had) reasonable rates. I once got a nice condo/suite on that same block through priceline for like $70 a night. Wish I could remember the name of that place. Very easy H1 access and the park, zoo and internationl marketplace are handy.

Aloha Mella, If you were thinking real cheap and kinda trashy you might try the Holiday Surf Hotel on Ala Wai Blvd along the canal....soooo senic but priced right at 544.00 for 4 days with a car!! and a full kitchen and only 2 blocks to da ocean...... hehehehe good luck we have our fingers crossed for puss&boots them feline terrorists that get all the stink eye from DOA
