Well, after a 7 year absence, my adult son and I will be coming to Puna for the Hawaii Tropical Fruit Growers meeting Sept 28-30, plus a few days more. Hopefully I will get to see some of you, along with some maintenance on our houses and plantings. We will be staying at Paradise Vacation Rentals on 19th off Makuu in HPP.

aloha allen,
how fortunate to come for a meeting on tropical fruit and in puna....great score on your part...it will be nice to be back again after 7 years...i'm sure you'll be surprised by all the changes.
are you involved with importing tropical fruits or growing in your area or consulting work in that regards?

Aloha Noel,
No, at the present I am a honey bee geneticist with USDA, ARS, but my Ph. D. coursework was in plant breeding. When I retire I want to raise tropical fruit and hopefully will have enough land to try planting out seeds of plants that need improvement to grow better or produce more desirable fruit in Puna.
Hopefully most of the surprises will be good ones.

Thanks Noel, Val and Carrie.
Well, it is now down to just less than 4 weeks. Hopefully we will not get a replay of Katrina in the next 5 weeks to complicate things.
Val,
I never found my stash of pole bean pods from last year, but I just harvested some new seeds. With the cost of postage for padded envelopes, I would like to send a bunch to you and let you pass some on to Pam, Don & Lek, and anyone else that would like some at the party, if you do not mind. Each plant produces a lot so it does not take many plants to supply a family.
Thanks.

Aloha Allen,
Can you give us any insight into the bee's Colony Collapse Disorder and any possible threat to Hawaii. Have a great trip.

Tahunatics,
I started a new thread on CCD in Farming and Gardening in Puna, where it would be more appropriate. And of course I left off the s at the end of your user name.
