Shared Pet Care
#1
Ed and I have one remaining cat. She's 19 years old and we don't expect to bring her to our new home in Puna in 09. She's currently spending the weekend at the vets after a racoon attack last night. I really want to have more kittys and a dog again when we move over in 09, but we want to be able to travel. Is there any interest in sharing pet care in the punatic commumity? I know I would love to be a participant once we are there.

We would certainly be interested.

Currently we are figuring out who can watch Gracie ( German Shepard ), Penny ( Feist ), Makena ( Black Lab) and an African Grey parrot on the way - yet to be named Smile while we are away for Brians b-day and Back to Virginia for Christmas.

It would be great to have a group that we could all depend on and trust.

I would be down for that. We love our cat, but we also love to travel. It would be so much less stressful knowing that we can make plans and not have to worry about finding someone trustworthy to watch him while we're gone. That's always a concern for pet owners. Erik and I love all animals too and would love to sit for them as well....

"How do you know i am mad?" said Alice.
"You must be," said the cat "or you wouldnt have come here."

This is great. While we aren't there yet, we did have some traveling plans also, and had planned to take our pets to Bar-King Kennels. We have spoken in person and visited this kennel, and found it to be outstanding. However if pet owners had a co-operative, count us in, when we get set up.

Great. Let's keep this thread alive. Ed and I would have no problem pet sitting once we are over. Genxor, where do you and Brian live?

Puna is the first place we've lived in many years where we don't have shared pet care. We have three well adjusted large dogs. We're fully dog-proof fenced and gated, and I'm retired and remodeling the house so here full time. Ours are pampered to the max, sleeping on the bed (until I can't move my legs). This is something I'd be very interested in, and it would probably lead to some neat friendships.

This topic is of great interest to me. I have a very spoiled cat on the mainland. He stays with his foster family (where he is equally spoiled and loved)whenever I'm in Hawaii. Luckily, my cat, Mele, is very adaptable to both housing situations.

I am a cat person and would love to have one here, but traveling makes that impossible. If anyone wanted me to kitty-sit, that would be great. Kitty would have to be fixed and well-behaved, of course!

We are *almost* in Leilani ( things are a teeny bit out of schedule ) but will be shortly.
Our kids really don't get the run of the house. We ( or perhaps I Smile are a neat freak.
We've always been so fortunate when traveling to have our family ( when in Virginia) or neighbors elsewhere to keep the dogs on their normal schedule. Less stress for them, more stress for the sitters !!
At one time, my parents would let them out in the morning, feed them, play with them, put them back in. A neighbor/friend would come by around 2pm to let them back out and leave them out if the weather was nice. Later Brians parents would play/feed/put them back in.
I promise, they are not high maintenance, nor are we.
One horrible time, when we were here searching for homes, the poor kids were in the house from 10 am till 10 am the next day(snowstorm)
They are really good girls.
