Does anyone know how bad the infestation of coqui are in Nanawale Estates? Is it really loud? Mahalo.

Julie, only you can answer your question. The sound of the coquies put me to sleep and I sleep like baby. For some others, it sounds like an airplane.

I don't hear 'em anymore...unless one is right up under the bedroom window...but usually can't even remember they're there. I like the sound of the forest at night. I know some people hate it 'cause they remember what it was like before the coqui. We're newcomers so always had 'em.

Most of Nanawale has a pretty big infestation. They never bothered me though.

Ditto to Carrie's comment. It took me a while, but I adjusted and they're actually soothing now, like the rain on the roof. I notice something is odd on those rare exceptionally cool nights when they go quiet.

Cheerfully adapting,

I suggest you call someone in Nanawale. You'll hear the coqui over the phone, and you can make your own judgement. Aloha

Peace and Quiet of the past
only 4 years ago not a peep in the middle of HPP. Tried the spraying game when the grants first came out but by then it was too late. Get used to it they're not going to be eradicated. Anyone who believes otherwise is either nieve or is making money for spraying. They are like centipedeeds but don't sting, like geckos but a bit louder, but not near as bad as the bu=frogs, bawwwrrruuup, but I've trained my fish to eat the tadpoles, was easy.
So get the maglight and go out and catch a few now and then and feed them to your chickens or squish em a little and let the fish feed. My fish love cockroaches and carpenter bees too. beefy

get used to them, it's not something anyone or any state, county or federal agency gonna be able to do anything about. I know, because I've sprayed and sprayed when the grant monies first came out. Got suckered into donating lobor thinking "they" knew what they were talkin about.
Not! the little buggas are in the lava tubes where you can't spray. The citric acis burns some plants up and the lime just sugar coats the situation, baking soda too. If you can squirt one with baking soda and it dies, woopee what you gonna trip around in the jungle at dusk hunting little creekers?
I've had them crawling throigh wet cement and live. The one sure kill are the ones you catch and pop in your fingers.
So think of them as loud crickets and be happy they don't do what centipedes do without warning. And glad they don't feed on blood like mosquitoes.
And you can thank walmart for bringing them in.

again, what is the big deal with the frogs? A lot of you act like you were living at a retirement home, or spent your evening in a public Library before coming to Puna! Are the frogs really louder than the Ambulances blowing their sirens in your old homes on the mainland? I just find it rather odd that people would get all anal over God's little creatures, or maybe it's just I'm a such a big "burnout", because those little buggars can put me to sleep with their sound...then again a hyena can put me to sleep too!!
