"Sex Offender Hired As County Planner"
Why has this not been posted by one of us before or sooner than this?
"felony first-degree sexual assault of a child"
Does not sound like something to be ignored.
How can our TOTAL County government - Mayor, Council, etc. - condone this hiring?
Is Yuen that powerful?
"State law, with some exceptions, prohibits employers from discriminating against someone because of a past criminal record, he said." (Yuen)
Is the "County" afraid of being sued by this guy?
As has been stated in other forums - WHAT ABOUT THE CHILD?
Part of the Aloha spirit is caring about/for each other.
I don't give a damn about this guy - but I care about the child.

It has been covered in the newpaper. While I do not in any way condon the crimes committed I will say that public stoning is not allowed in our society.
When people have been convicted and served jail terms it does not mean that they must now cease to exist or starve to death.
India has had (and has) a class of people called "untouchable". Is anyone suggesting that we do the same? It might be popular to say yes. I don't think it would be in the best interests of society.

Here's the Tribune-Herald article.

And hmmm. Odd that there was no one else equally (or better) qualified for the position, eh? Someone of a wee bit stronger moral fiber? A wee bit better role model? A wee bit more trustworthy?
As regards the Indian "untouchables," I'm not sure the comparison is valid, Rob. Those folks are tainted from birth; relegated to the very bottom-rung through no fault of their own.
This guy however, and the thousands like him who've screwed up royally, knew perfectly well what he was doing. I'm not saying he deserves to starve to death...but landing a top level job?...that is just plan weird.

First off this creep is STILL SERVING his sentence for raping a boy.How is it that this county employee will get off work 30 days a year to go to jail when all the other good employees don't get that much time off.
I certainly do not want this guy making a living off my tax dollars.
This is not just a job its a civil servant position with codes of conduct and ethics.
The whole thing reeks of corruption, good ole boy crap and certainly makes me wonder about Chris Yuen (now I know why I never liked him)
Rob your comments are disturbing to me considering this situation.
Maybe you all don't remember during our last disaster how ALL the county employees had to leave their jobs to go handle the disaster by going door to door to check out damages. What if a little boy home alone answers the door and its Mr.Childs (molester) coming to do damage I mean check out the damage.
So do we have to keep our children 500 ft from the county building now?
Are we subordinates to a convicted child molester?
Will the coh honor a request for a different planner because we have children in tow or just want to rip the guys nuts off?
It would be nice if folks would worry more about stopping crimes against children, then rewarding child molesters with unsubstantial sentences and high paying coveted civil servant jobs.
This guy ruined the life of a child and probably many more I'd say its pretty fair if his life was ruined to ROB.
HELLO Pot smokers serve more jail time than child molesters.

You all can ask all the what-ifs you want. In my opinion this is not a case of an unregistered sex offender taking up residence next to a elementary school or teaching Sunday School.
I know it's popular to want to hang em, shoot em, tar and feather em and run them outta town. I just think it's too reactionary. If he was a cabinetmaker someone would want to shut him down I guess.
He is one of many and is probably the most publicly exposed. It's the one's you don't know about that you should worry about most.

Matthew
Chapter 18
1
1 At that time the disciples 2 approached Jesus and said, "Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?"
2
He called a child over, placed it in their midst,
3
and said, "Amen, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, 3 you will not enter the kingdom of heaven.
4
Whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.
5
4 And whoever receives one child such as this in my name receives me.
6
"Whoever causes one of these little ones 5 who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to have a great millstone hung around his neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea.
7
6 Woe to the world because of things that cause sin! Such things must come, but woe to the one through whom they come!
8
If your hand or foot causes you to sin, 7 cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to enter into life maimed or crippled than with two hands or two feet to be thrown into eternal fire.
9
And if your eye causes you to sin, tear it out and throw it away. It is better for you to enter into life with one eye than with two eyes to be thrown into fiery Gehenna.
10
8 "See that you do not despise one of these little ones, 9 for I say to you that their angels in heaven always look upon the face of my heavenly Father.
No!
