Yellow Summer (Crookneck) Squash

Well I feel powerful! I just harvested the first of what looks like several yellow summer squashes...they are so nice.

Today was good...had the day off so did much around the house including harvesting Swiss Chard; Summer Squash; Grey Zucchini; Black Beauty Zucchini; Jalepenos (many to freeze); the last of our avocados; several green bell peppers; and many eggplants, etc.

I also noticed that our peas are already fruiting tiny pea pods...very nice! Hawaii is amazing and abundant!

Hi,

Do you spray or do you have a screen house that you keep them in?

I tried growing them but they were attacked by the pickle worm. I would spray them once a week and still they were ruined.

Well, we had them out until we put up a canopy about a week or two ago. We are in the process of altering it (MOTO SHADE) into a little shade house. Punawebber (and our friend) Dean passed along a few tips and instructions on how to make a fruit fly trap and I'll tell you what - every week I get several thousand dead fruitflies in the trap!!

I have noticed that our veggies are doing very well lately. I also feed them with a good 8-8-8 food and spray with organic bug spray every couple weeks.

First time I have grown them, Jade and they were deeeelicious!

You must be doing something right Carrie, when I try summer squash or zuchini if the pickle worm doesn't get em some kind of end rot does. Any other tips you can pass along. Congrats.

When they were just tiny a few of them had "end rot." I just picked those and tossed 'em and the others matured nicely.
