Dozing House Site
#1
Hey All,
I need to have my house site dozed - not the full lot, as we want to leave things as natural as possible, but just about 1/3 acre. It's not heavily forested, but there are several fairly large trash trees, and much scrub. Dozer will have to go around a couple of Ohia stands, and haul away debris. House will be post and pier so I am not asking for things to be leveled at all or prepared for a slab; I want the contour of the terrain disturbed as little as possible. At the same time, I need to add to my driveway, about 75 feet which will require dozing and some fill. I got a quote for about 10K, which seems high to me. Any thoughts?

Thanks - any advice much appreciated.
Mark

unless you need alot of fill for your driveway it sounds high, many dozers are now idle you should be able to get a decent rate now

For what you describe you may not need a large dozer.... a smaller machine can do closer work for a lower rate.
Where is this to take place?
Assume the best and ask questions.

Way way way too high quote! Call Royce at 640.0040 and tell him I gave you the contact info. He recently dozed several lots for us for much less than your quote.

My client just passed your info onto me. Sounds like you may need the same done to your lot that we did to his. He lives on road 8. Please feel free to call him and also look at the before and after photos of the lot. Don't be suckered into others telling you you need a big dozer. You will just be out big bucks and not have one tree left on your lot.
Please consider this e-mail and do some research first. I have great refernces and photos to share with you.

Mark,

I can vouch for Greywolf. He did a wonderful job on my lot, and it cost me considerably less than the $10,000 quote you were given.

Everyone,
Wow, thanks for all the replies and advice. I didn't accept the bid of 10K and quickly worked out another, much lower price with someone who will work closely with me using a smaller machine. Greywolf, I didn't check back here before I called the other guy - sorry, and thanks for responding.

Hi Mark,

You may have already heard about this, but here's just a word of advice. Mark the areas around trees you want the dozer to leave alone with stakes and survey tape. If the machine goes too close to the roots you may lose the tree to root damage later - so where possible, try and mark out at least a 15' protected zone from the trunks. Make sure to show your dozer operator what you want to save ahead of time and try to be there when the clearing happens.

Best of luck with your new place.
