-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ...I'm thinking of ways to make the container house more secure... -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Get a redneck. I got one. Our house seems safe! ha ha Oh my gawd.....I rolled around on the floor! Too much! Glad to see some levity here, as this is a scary topic. One suggestion for those of you who are building a home. We shipped over our RV and are living in that ON SITE. We have a chain across the driveway. We're getting to know our neighbors. But being on-site seems to be a big help. We are aware of cars on the street, and we've actually walked down when someone is driving slowly (usually turns out to be one of our neighbors checking the progress of the house). Anyhow...just a suggestion. BTW, we'll be selling our RV fairly soon, if anyone is interested. I feel pretty darn secure, being on-site while building. Now once we move into the house, we will remind ourselves that we're not into owning a lot of cool electronics and possessions...we didn't move to Hawaii for that, but instead to enjoy the beauty of the island. Yes, we'll have motion sensor lights on all four corners of the house. Maybe a dog in the near future (I think they truly are the best deterrant). I do certainly hope law enforcement improves, but I think lots of suggestions made on this thread are very useful, too. Thanks Punatics! Some of the container sites show using the big end container doors as a lockout door, have entry doors for normal use just inside of the container doors, when you are around use the normal entry doors, then close up & lock the container end doors when you are gone. Much of the stuff I have heard of has been easy oppurtunity stuff. Taking things from lanais, carports & such, but with the lock 'bump' keys now readily available, most door locks are fairly easy to open, so look for 'bump' resistant locks & such if your doors are not on the end....window reinforcing depends a lot on the type of windows....cheaper sliders & jalousies are the easiest to enter...but most any can be opened....

911 transcript of the guy in Texas who shot and killed two intruders robbing his neighbor. This should provoke a lot of discussion nationally. |
