Volcano is Acting Up #3: Pele is Smoking!
#21
Oh, to be a missionary in 1835 Puna....I am pretty sure that I would have gone native, real, real quick. I love the older accounts of Hawaii. If there is any doubt that something has been lost, it is in those accounts.

Hooligal -- I am "pimping" this diary as "The Diary" for all volcano related comments. So far it hasn't caught on, but I keep pimping!

This is too funny Glen. I'm assuming the picture of the guy in the green shirt is you? Well I'm the person standing behind you taking the photo of the Ohia tree. Maybe we should all get Punatic name tags then we can meet our online neighbors at the many events this fabulous Island hosts.

Does anyone know if the road is open today?

Ok...now I am really messed up! First I have a mental impression that Glen is on the mainland...then I see his lava pictures and wonder how he got to the volcano so quick...but i adjust my thinking. Additionally, I have this mental image of what Glen looks like which doesn't begin to resemble the young man in the photo...but again I adjust my thinking. Now I find out that Glen didn't take the pictures and is not the person in the photo...huh???

Btw Hooligal, awesome pictures! Thanks for sharing!

Greg, leilaniguy, and peteadams,

Thank you for the recommended reading! I will definetely try to get a hold of the copy of the books! I am looking forward to reading the accounts of real people dealing with the volcano and other situations in an earlier Hawaii!

Auweh...that Green Tea diet pushed by Oprah really works (except on Oprah)! Why am I wearing a sweater while kneeling next to molten lava? Oh, that's right it was that special kind of "ice cream" lava, which comes out of the mountain really cold and delicious.

And my bunny! He looks so happy even though he appears to be in a lake of fire (which is really ice cream)! Now THAT's Buddism, Origami!

By the way, I just want to prove that Pele has spiken to me. I am one of her kumu, I think. It's an honor. Here is what I said back in January:

My favorite thread! And it looks like we have a lava tube express straight to Royal Gardens.

Now, back to biting my nails.
