My favorite pet - your story
#21
We are cat people although I do love meeting others people's well behaved dogs.

We have Mr. Happy who is an all white and deaf cat. He is just comical that guy! Although Hooligal calls him Mr Semi Contented now that he is snipped. Oh yah and mr Happy was catching coquis a few nights ago! I guess now that he has hunted all the geckos he has moved on to coquis.

And the Queen of the Castle is Kitty the ulimate diva. Cody swears he still gets stink eye for moving her off a pillow months ago.

I had a basenji/doberman named Rue. I got her in Arizona. I had my school bus and a van parked on a concrete slab out in the desert near the Salton Sea. I used to leave the window on my 63 Dodge pop-top van open four inches to keep air flow. Woke up one morning and there was a dog in there! I tracked down her owner (3 miles away) and returned her.
Next morning, she was back in my van. I returned her again. The guy told me if she came back, keep her.
Well, she was back in my van on day three, so I kept her!
It was then that I saw a flash of steel on her chest... digging through her fur, I found a tag, then a collar. The collar was cutting into her throat so tight, she could barley breathe! I took it off immediately, and she was so relieved.
Rue only "woofed" (kinda) once- when there was danger.
My ex was taking off on me a lot in those days. I knew Rue would keep him safe, so I put her in the van when he left. He came back a week later to tell me she had been run over at a rest stop by an ambulance that was speeding with its lights off.
Sad end, but a GREAT dog!

Breathe. Relax. Focus.

Years ago in California, on the morning of my birthday, I got up, went to the living room and saw my two Australian Bearded Dragons, Bud and Peaches in their terrarium doing the wild thing like there was no tomorrow!

I have a funny cat story.

A few years ago, while living on Maui, we welcomed new neighbors. Well, the people who moved in weren't really friendly (and that can be good at times [Smile]) but their 2 long haired cats were VERY friendly.

We understood that their 2 cats were more inside cats than outside.. so IF the kitties were outside it was under strict supervision.

On more than on occasion - I would find Ollie, the honey colored long hair cat inside my house! He would follow my cat in and park himself anywhere he felt like it. Once, I stepped out of the shower to find him sitting in the basin.[:0]

This one afternoon, I had friends coming over to help us pack for the move to the Big Island. Leaving hubby and kids home, I decided to run to store to get drinks and snacks. On my way out of the driveway, I stepped out of my SUV to check the mail and then proceeded to Foodland.

$50 bucks later, I loaded groceries in the back and jumped in to drive home. I turned to see if the coast was clear to reverse out of parking stall... and there sitting patiently on the backseat was Ollie. I was startled to see him, but him.. had no care in the world.

I was going to stop at Minute-Stop for some Chicken, but decided to hurry home instead.

I got home.. everyone was there.. after some explaining.. I became known as the Cat-napper. [:I]

I lived in Mexico for a while and was having a real hard time with the language and situation after living there for about 6 months. One day I was walking down the road going home and when I got to the house there was this still-blind kitten sitting in the middle of our driveway. I have no idea how she got there, but I couldn't leave her there.

Everday I would feed her baby formula (they didn't have kitten formula there) from a syringe. She didn't take to it and I was sure she wasn't going to make it. One night it all just hit me with being away from home and the poor cat dying that I just prayed that the cat wouldn't die because I wasn't sure I could take it. I went to bed thinking she wouldn't be alive in the morning.

To my surprise when i woke up that goofy little kitten was playing with a paper ball that hadn't made it into the wastebasket. She continued to put on weight and every morning she would wake me up to play fetch with a paper ball.

After awhile I had to move back to the states and naturally my kitten couldn't go. I found her a good home, but the day I actually gave her away was the first time I truly (and I can't believe I'm admitting this) balled since I was a little boy.

I've lost contact with her owners, but last I talked to them she was doing just fine.

Pills, I miss you still.

Hospital patients always enjoy a visitor or two, but officials said one Hawaii man went too far when he rode his horse into a hospital to visit his father.A spokesman for Wilcox Memorial Hospital on the Hawaiian island of Kauai said a man called the hospital earlier this month and said he was going to ride his father's horse into the hospital, where his father was a patient, reported Honolulu TV station KITV.

"He proceeded to take the horse up the elevator up to the nursing floor where he was met by security and our nurse supervisor," said the spokesman.

The man, who authorities said appeared intoxicated at the time, posed for pictures with the horse and an off-duty nurse.

The animal was escorted out of the building after the man's father claimed the horse wasn't his, the spokesman said

"We do have a pet visitation policy, but it does not include a horse," said the spokesman. "Although it sounds funny, we don't want to compromise our visitor and our patient healthcare."

The hospital said it notified the health department.

Officials with the heath department said they would look into the incident to determine if any actions are needed to ensure the safety of the hospital. An internal hospital investigation, however, found that the incident did not warrant any disciplinary action.

"We investigate all incidents and this is a very rare incident and naturally it's something we sat and discussed so we can understand how it happened and how we can prevent it the next time," said the hospital spokesman.

The hospital did say that they are looking for ways to improve security at the hospital.

Kauai is the northernmost and fourth largest of the major Hawaiian islands.
