This was sent to me because of job as a Realtor (and I've edited out some job-related specifics) but I thought everyone would find this interesting:
Hiccup Circus and Hawaii's Volcano Circus (HVC) would like all Big Island real estate professionals to know about an exciting development going on - we're building a 10,000 sq ft. performing arts center! The center will be located in "Bellyacres", a 12-acre kipuka next to Seaview Estates in Kehena.
The center will be known as Seaview Performing Arts Center for Education - S.P.A.C.E. Construction of Phase 1 of S.P.A.C.E. began in April and we plan to finish this fall. The center will improve the quality of life in lower Puna.
S.P.A.C.E. functions will include:
- Hiccup Circus headquarters
- Community events, meetings, workshops and classes
- Venue for residential workshops, camps and festivals
Funding for construction of S.P.A.C.E. is coming from foundation grants and private contributions. We received a $250,000 challenge grant from the Dorrance Family Foundation. We have already received $100,000 and they are willing to give us $150,000 more. To earn the full $250,000, however, we need to match the grant with money that we raise separately. We've already raised $178,000, so we have $77,000 more to go. Donations are tax-deductable and can be made on-line at http://www.hvcircus.org.
Hiccup Circus and HVC have been a part of the Big Island for over 20 years. Our mission is to provide for the healthy development of children and community through educational programs for kids of all ages. We provide entertainment for community events and festivals. We're the producers of the Puna Performing Arts Festival, which last November collaborated with 11 local schools and community arts groups to present "Malama Ka Aina", which focused on the threat of albezia trees and other invasive species. Included on the DVD of the show is a 5 minute documentary outlining the dangers of the albezias and step that can be taken by homeowners to control them. DVDs are available by donation. You can learn more about us through our websites - http://www.hvcircus.org and http://www.hiccupcircus.org.
Please forward this message to any of your colleagues that would be interested in learning about our project. Mahalo for your support!
