Solarhart/Solar Water Heating

Not Paloma, but we have t Takagi tankless and we are on catchment. If there is a problem associated with catchment and tankless, I'm unaware of it. Ours (we have 4) work great.

I asked Solar hart if their hot water heater was NEW tech, I was being a smart ass. It just doesn't make since that in 2006 when it was installed that there was no technology to create a auto shut off. I assume items that overheated were shutting themselves down MANY years ago.
So to own a solar hart you need to be ready and able to climb at least a story and climb on the roof, our home is two stories. We could install something to divert the water to the ground in a metal pipe, however we are on catchment and in Ocean View. I certainly can not afford to loose any water better yet 50 gallons a day sprayed on the ground. So I get to climb on the room and cover the panel when we leave for more than two days. I really hope we sell our home with our fancy water heater before I get to old.

We looked into Solarhart. But both installers we called out for bids steered us to having
the tank down stairs. It is a 80 gal. 2 roof solar panels. We have only had to use electric back up once in Dec. for 3 days. We did have the overheat pop off valve release hotwater on the roof once. The pump is small uses minimal power and can be purchased 12volt if you have PV. We are very satisfied with the unit. The electronic thermostat and other adjustments are down stairs. When we traveled Australia (Sydney to Brisbane) we would often see the roof mount tanks. Probably Solarhart. Aloha Wyatt

Aloha Wyatt, you say that the installers steered you toward having the tank on the ground, but it sounds like it ended up on the roof. Right?

Glen,if Wyatt has the same unit I was talking about,it has 2 components-tank on the ground and solar panel on the roof. Wyatt,did you choose electric booster instead of a gas one for any specific reason or that particular model comes with that option only?

Oh, I see....it's both. But if the tank was on the ground, how did it leak on the roof? I don't want any stinking leaking on the roof.

Glen the tank is on the ground. The unit came with an electric backup.
I prefer electric. Once on you can use a timer to limit electrical use through the day. I can also just walk to my hallway and switch the breaker on as needed . Or just let the thermostat do it's job. Aloha

Did any of you use the Helco rebate for your solar water heating??? If you didn't, was there any particular reason not to? (We are starting our research on switching to solar water heating (esp. after having guests using our hot water.... boy, extended showers really can drive up the elec. bill w/o touching the water bill!)
