I've been a bit reluctant to reply..

But Hawaii is in deep troubles.

Even the president of Dole Pineapples has recently asked for Governor Lingle to sign a declaration of Emergency for the State.

He also "..believes that the airlines are on the verge of bankruptcy, that very few people will be flying in the near future and that Hawaii's future will be bleak if we don’t do something now..."

Local farmer Richard Ha believes that prophecy to fulfill itself in the near future.

Yep its bad [V] my neighbors power has been off for 4 days now and they have 4 kids[]

Look around in the grocery store, people look crazed trying to find something they can afford.

The family double loaf of bread at KTA I paid just 3.69 for 2 weeks ago went up to 5.69 [V] Grocery bill doubled![}]

Overtime is unheard of (something most families lived off of).[:0]
Lucky if you even have a job.

For the first time ever I got robbed (all my tools)[!]

Everybody is selling their junk but nobody has any money to buy it.

Good this is an election year cause I wanna hear some talk about what somebody is gonna do! and what the heck happened to the Chinese tourists! Was that just a one time show or what???

And whats with the county shutting everybody down!!!!costing jobs!!!
The Arc had this great construction resale store in town. I went by and they were closed cause the COH said they didn't have a retail permit!!! What the heck! they were in Hilo shopping center!!!
Look around and see how many others there shutting down. Stuff thats been in our communities forever.

Sorry Rob, I was going to write more but I am at work and I got busy while posting.

I just think the financial down turn will have a chilling affect on the Big Island. I know everyone always wishes for older simpler times and I think we are headed there. Alot a money and pain will be wrung out of the economy and people in the downturn.

I was going to ask how the economy is affecting everyone and the impact they are seeing around them.

I headed back to the mainland last year after buying some property north of Hilo to work at a very safe well paying job because I had a real bad feeling about the economy. Even though I am very well set up for money, I thought working would help me shore things up and give me some better insight into the economy.

I wonder if the hard times ahead will push more off the islands to the mainland and how the social fabric of aloha will hold up.

My family and I are doing good. My 2yr boy is repaying me for what I did to my parents. I am currently working for SoCal Edison about 20 hrs a week contracting, my job is pretty safe and they pay me really well. I have had a really good year in the market, I am actually setting up for long on the dollar soon. I see 10K Dow by Xmas and possibly 1350 Au.

A financial downturn will have a chilling effect on the Big Island. That is worth pondering. A financial downturn will have a chilling effect everywhere else too. That's what financial downturns do.

There are peaks and valleys.

Sometimes, during something like a financial downturn, I get up in the morning, look around and say to myself: If these are the bad times I guess I can handle it.

Can't think of anywhere I'd rather be in a financial downturn.
