We need to put up a fence around the house we just bought in Keaau on Lehua Drive. Does anyone know of a good, affordable company or person to do this for us and do we need a building permit for a fence? I would like to get this arranged to be done immediately after our arrival as we are bringing small dogs and we are close to the road. Thanks,

He put in chain link fencing around our lot in Hwn. Shores.
Very reliable guy.

Ditto JonP on Kawika. He fenced our acre perimeter in HPP with hogwire for a very good price, and was reliable, too. It looks good and feels as sturdy as the day he finished it.
Cheers,

A little bit more correction, if it's 6 feet than you need a permit. It has to be LESS than 6 feet for a permit-free install.

Here's a parallel question which is interesting:
When was the last the the County of Hawaii enforced it's requirement for a permit?

In year's past I have made some written complaints - primarily about slum lord issues. Nothing ever happened.

The Building Department does enforce codes on occasion. There have been several "as-built" plans I've done to get the folks legal after they fell afoul of the codes. Not a happy process since they are more sticky when folks have built something illegally.
For your fence, if you have really small dogs, you may not want to use field fencing like we did. Our smaller dog who is just under thirty pounds can slip right through it. Wretched cur! She pushes her head through a hole and then manages to get the rest of herself through as well. It took us a long time to figure out that the hole in the fence she was getting out of was all the holes in the fence!

Our dogs range from 10 pounds to 25 pounds. I heard that the ground was extremely hard to break through...worries me about growing stuff? Linda Bowman
