Music and Music scene
#1
Just a note, maybe. . .

I'm a guitarist, and a fair one, and would like to put together a band of semi dedicated local guys to play low - key cover tunes, or what have you. I can play, but hands are twisted with construction, etc. I was trained as a classical vocalist and have perfect pitch, another affliction, some of you will know what I mean.

There is a lack of good, solid, fun, unpretentious danceable music out there, and I would love to play it.

I play a Les Paul Special, fulltone effects, minimal, would love a big Vox, need a clean bass, keyboard, drums. My vocals are nice, but I'm a deep bartone bass and no one really wants to hear it. My style would naturally be Clapton, but I hate that style, in spite of the fact that the style/voice is near identical. I love Joe Satrioni, etc, but mostly because there is virtuosity in melody plus techincal whizzbang. I'm not near that good, but can rip it up if I practice.

Influences would be Cream, New Order, Stones, Vaughn, Hendrix(but not so much), Sex Pistols, U2, et all. Anyone who doesn't suck, mostly.

LOL

I live in Fern Forest, and we can PRACTICE!

And oh,

I have to add this, not to seem a self righteous snot. (or any more so than I already do.)

Perfect pitch is a gene. You have it or you don't. It's not a good thing in music, and doesn't make you musical. It simply makes you very sensitive to pitch. I can sing out a perfect "E" on prompting. Some people thing that's crazy, but no more crazy than knowing what "blue" is, which is the direct analogue. The main problem with it is that you can't play off tune, because it's completely screwed up, and it's important that all around you plays with equally good pitch. That is a bigger problem than you might think, really, and takes good instruments.

People don't believe it, but I swear by listening to an FM broadcast I can tell which way the wind is blowing. . .LOL. It's only by years of using power tools I've gotten myself to the point I can enjoy music again.

Ah, phooey, anyone can sing. I promise you, it's innate.

Most people who think they're tone deaf are actually key deaf, meaning their relative pitch is pretty good, but they cannot decide to sing harmony or melody. I've taught a little voice, and it takes very little to fix that. Two weeks? Really. Never seen it not work. The other problem is simple abdominal support. Less of a problem for women, as it takes less air to sing the higher pitches, but as a Bass to sing the "star spangled banner" takes a LOT of air. Do sit ups. It helps you sing.

Wow, that sounds like great fun. I used to sing (alleged)harmony when my wife would sing in church, but that doesnt mean much. The congregation usually was half asleep and just glad something was happening other than preaching, and that they weren't having to do it. I also have quite a collection of instruments that I play poorly, but with great enthusiasm... Sax, trumpet, clarinet, ukes, mandolins, guitars, bass, whatever my whim of the moment was, I bought and figured out rudimentary sounds until my wife gave me stink-eye.(At one time I played happy birthday on the trumpet every monday morning on my way to work at 100mph or more, it only takes one hand to play the trumpet). At home once I was recording something with headphones on and she came in and said I was moaning! I said no, I was singing harmony....Anyway, if the invite is open, I'd like to try out.....

I promise you from self experience you are wrong[:o)]

I can sing, yeah of course I can sing...(My best tune I can carry is Happy Birthday and the ABC's)

But I sure wouldn't hold an audience for more then 2 seconds. [Big Grin]

I wish I was talented enough to sing a tune or even play a tune.

I dig local music though.[^]

Hey that sounds like a blast. No limit on volume, right? I have an electric bass I hack around on, when are try-outs? How about a song to practice? Surfing with the alien? Let me know when and where.

Sounds like this could be fun. As my sign-in name indicates, I play trumpet. Also keyboards and guitar. I'm in HPP every other week or so and hopefully will be there full-time in a couple of months. I'd like to get together for some musical fun. I'll keep an eye open for the "auditions!"

My husband plays the drums, has since he was a young one. He is into a lot of what you mentioned, but I know Zeppelin is a fave of both of ours. I love singing, but I'm pretty sure I suck lol!

We do also have an acoustic and electric guitar, bass and the digital equipment to record (along with the mic, etc.) In fact, we even made ourselves a song...maybe I'll upload it and post a link! lol, might be too embarrassing though..

I'm sure you could score a drummer to jam with if you're interested!
