Seriously tho, my dad always told me cook your pork...that it's one of the worst for ingested-pathogens. I had the unfortunate childhood experience of living with dad while he got his post-doc in Tropical Diseases & Parasitic Medicine at Johns Hopkins. He kept his *%&$ specimens in the fridge so he could study at home. GRODY.

I'd imagine that the acidity of the stomach would kill cancerous cells before they took hold. But that's just a guess. I'd be really careful if I had open sores in the mouth, throat or esophagus, ulcers or bleeding gums, since MAYBE the cancer cells could find a point of entry before your saliva or digestive juices could render them harmless. Any doctory types out there care to chime in on my theory? Cancer-kabob-conjecture for a wednesday afternoon. Must be a slow day for me.

Just an update...

I've finished eating some a while back.... it was ONO!

If you don't hear from me tomorrow, you know you shouldn't eat a Pig that had a tumor.[B)]

I did see a less "iconoclastic" article in the WSJ couple weeks ago- haven't found it yet. Though I heard you have to castrate the boar pigs or else the meat will be inedibly tainted- is that possible?

Catching, cutting and then releasing for later recapture is fairly common and does improve the meat. (Or catching, cutting and penning for awhile) More important than the cutting is what they have been eating. An orange grove pig is good stuff. A boar right out of the pine woods and palmettos can be pretty rank. I would think one out of the papaya or guava groves would be fairly good uncut.

This pig was raised on UH's Farm and was being monitored.

It was given to someone I know [Wink] and I had to ask punaweb before I questioned what they were doing....

But I finally gave up and just asked them.

What they did with the tumor is what everyone is wondering right?

Well the tumor was just a big blood sac and they just drained it. The rest of it was just extra skin, and if you've ever had roasted pig... you know that crispy skin is the best, so it ended up being an added bonus. [Big Grin]

don't think penning Arnold would work for me. If you ever rubbed his stomach they straighten out in prostrate ecstacy worse than any dog. No can kill it after that.
