As that site says:
"The markets will eventually work themselves out and this bubble will pop on its own accord, just like all other bubbles have in the past."

More government regulation? Not usually a good thing.

Maybe better for us all to stop wasting fuel in the meantime.

i disagree, in some cases regulation is needed, this being one that needs serious attention now

This ain't no bubble, y'all. There really is more demand for oil than there is supply, and when I say supply, I mean even if you drilled a hole on the White House lawn, or in Yosemite National Park. Production can never keep pace with demand. There is too much.

We just can't live this way. It has nothing to do with speculators. That's just a way to shift the focus from the real problem: We built our society on oil, and there is a dwindling supply of it.

Pissing off Iran doesn't help either.

Oh, yes, just to keep this Hawaii-related: The islands are going to get very isolated, very quick.

I say no regulation unless we impose the same on everything else where speculation is involved. Despite popular rhetoric, oil does not drive this country nor is it a necessity.

The market economy is a wonderful thing. Price goes up -> supply goes up -> price goes down again.
Maybe quite a bit of the cheap oil has been used up, but there's plenty left in more expensive forms (eg oil sands in Canada). Not to mention energy in other forms: maybe we'll finally use that heat in the ground here in Hawaii like they're doing to great effect in Iceland. They're even building aluminium processing plants there despite the complete lack of bauxite!

If people can't trade freely in oil futures in the US, then they'll do it elsewhere.

Um, that Fed open window discount rate that's saving us all, where if you're a fat cat and you can get free money with no collateral? Seriously, you think that money is getting re-invested in real estate?

Oil is the world's reserve currency, not the dollar.
