Volcano Acting Up #5: Pulsing Incandescence
#31
Yes, Carey, that was us at the cafe. I asked you if you had eaten there when it was still Verna's. Where was my brain? I even told Bear, "I feel like I know those folks over there." Did y'all notice the waterspouts? They were most visible before dusk and did not show up in the lava glow or lightning flashes. A number of people around us remarked about them.

Cheers,
Jerry

What a show last night! Sorry we didn't say hello Jerry, didn't recognize you from your login! Next time I hope! I didn't do the follow the yellow dot path, but got a spectacular view of both Royal Gardens lava flow and the plume at the ocean entry, just before the path down. The lightning and the pyrotechnics, bursting into the air and lightningdown from the plume were awesome. Cat the company was great also!

If you haven't made time to see this virtual spectacle, make time, it is so worth it. Oh yeah the shower on the walk back to the first parking lot was good too! As Pam says it's all good!

Hey youse guys, I'm a self proclaimed official "Punatic" now! Wednesday night I killed my very first centipede, hit it with a meat tenderizing mallot. I didn't even scream, like I imagined!

Thanks to Roze, "Lotus", I now have a new doo and it is so cool. Roze you are the best, thank you!

Aloha all, off to the mainland, but perhaps mid August I'll return, been offered a job!

We finally went to see the waterfront entry of the flow. WOW. We stayed until it was really dark and got a few good pics. I have posted them here: http://ph.groups.yahoo.com/group/PunaWeb.../cd75?b=17&m=t&o=0

The most wondrous thing was the major waterspouts that were created after large explosions!!!

P.S. - check out the tour boat directly beneath the waterspout![8)]

Great pics! The explosions are causing waterspouts? How does that work?

Which is the best way to the flow? I've been hearing so much about it lately; it must be amazing! Does the trail from Kalapana ever close?

rbakker, not sure how it works but the explosions are so violent over the water that I think the hot air starts them spinning...they're huge!

The best way is straight down the 130...just keep going all the way to the parking lot...they have it set up pretty well...all the lava down to the viewing place is marked with yellow broken lines like on a roadway so if you have your flashlignt (a must) it's pretty easy to take the hike down to the sight. Bring binoculars and you will be amazed!

Wonderful photos Carrie TU for Sharing them! Love the waste line on Bhudda! LOL

The water spouts are incredible and so is your photography, the explosions are immense now I guess, you captured them so well!

At night the explosions cause huge lightening bolts also, too quick for me to get a photo of them, well that and my batteries ran out!

Okay, so how cool is this? They will be using our Volcano shots on the 10pm news tonight on KITV (channel 12 here). The weather guy called me himself and asked if he could do it. Very cool.[Big Grin][Big Grin]
