Paradise Trashed and Aloha Vanishing
#61
There are a lot of thoughts to ponder on here. I was a little freaked by the distressing report on Hilo a few comments back. But Glen, you have given me peace. Perspective really does have a lot to do with the state of things.

A thought of interest that I had was that the weather on the islands is brutal in regards to how it intereacts with man made things. Things just don't have the same longevity on the islands as they do other places. Therefore, things can look run down a lot quicker than they do on say the mainland. So, I guess you can look at Hilo as covered in moss and slime, or you can look at it as a kiss from the island. That we have built all this stuff on this island and mother nature is just doing her part to make it look like it belongs here. Not that she doesn't need to be put in her place now and again and told she has taken it too far.

It sounds like someone needs to get themselves a good preasure washer and offer their services around town. It might prove to be quite a living.

Sharlee, love your thoughts on this!
When we were renting down by the shore, there was one house in the neighborhood, shoreline property, that was always immaculate. They had a garage sale & we asked them how much maintenance they did. They explained "not much". They had been renters, and they retired & bought their first house here. The builder had advised them that they should wash their outside windows, esp. the window wall toward the ocean, once a week & power wash the house once a month. That "was all" the maintenance they did....
We didn't have the heart to tell them how much over the normal routine maintenance that was...
It is all in your perspective.
Mother Nature just wants you to have something to do with your time....

Why do you feel the need to point out the Heinies, s'il vous plaƮt? Seems a pretty superfluous nonsequitur for someone who does not mean to "pinpoint any one individual or ethnic group:".

Steel is a hot property now days. China buys every thing it can get it's hands on and has there 7 year olds make Wal-mart products.

It would be really cool if some one organized a scrap drive to collect and sell the junk cars.

Just have to figure out the profit motive then maybe jobs could be created.

just FYI, I struck out with both public (County) and private to get rid of the junk car I inherited with my property. Problem was they need the car in a whole enough condition to be either towed or pulled onto a flatbed without falling apart. Mine would not stand the test, I know.

Then they tell you they'll just walk away and leave you with it if it fails.
Great, so my option would be to cut down all the vineage and the guava currently making the car invisible, so it can be accessible for removal. Then have then try to pull it out and see if it falls apart. If so, I now have a huge mess, no disposal, and no screening any more!

Shoots, I figure it can finish rusting away under the vines in that case.

Point being, the car removal business isn't going to get rid of the junk with such strict rules about condition. What's needed is people who will come and dismantle a car and load it into a truck, maybe cut it up into pieces on site.

There is someone(s) on this island that is going around and picking up used cars for free.

My friend said that this guy is taking the cars to a place where they are crushing them down into the size of an icebox. They are then loading them into shipping containers. Once they get them loaded, they ship them somewhere for $6,000 a container. They have been doing this for quite some time now.

This might be the guy that my friend was telling me about.

Noticed that the craigslist ad is fairly recent.

I believe all you have to do is have a License for picture verification and then you simply write a receipt to the guy verifying the car is yours and can be "Dumped" (NO TITLE NEEDED)
