I have been very fortunate in life to have traveled around the world so many times that I lost count. I did it broke as a young Marine and on an unlimited expense account on business.
What I learned was that I was always happiest and had the most fun when I was living low on a tight budget, eating with the locals and staying in pensions.
The Le Meridian hotel is the same in the U.S. as it is in Paris or London.

I am not a believer in anything, but I thought the 1st rule of Buddhism was that life was pain, Deal with it.
Happiness is all in our head and at the end of the day you have a set point for happiness. Becoming disabled or winning the lottery will not effect your happiness.

Here is a wonderful video on the subject. I hope you will watch it.
