About Kapoho Tide pools.....
#11
so does anyone have any first hand knowledge about whether the Wai Opae (or Champagne) water is giving people infections or other issues? There is so much vague info.

I lived across from Wai Opae for a month last summer. i only went in twice, because I had had some dermatological surgery, just enough to where I felt I was vulnerable until it healed. Both times I went in, a week or so apart, I felt like I had a flulike weird illness for the next few days ... but I have no idea if that was just a coincidence.

I got no rash or infection ... but I have heard people talk about rashes, infections, ear infections ... is it all just friend of a friend of a friend or supposition? Or is it a real concern?

by the way, I was told by my neighbor to stay out of the front pool (keiki pool), and only snorkeled farther out (but not all the way out).

Well they were there about 3 weeks ago... It was only a group of about 8-10 people and the two tour guides. It's pretty easy to spot a "tourist group". [Wink]

I know there are a lot of underground tour companies [Wink]

This was at Champagne pond fyi.

We snorkel at Wai Opae about 3x/wk and have never had any type of problem. Happy to report.

The 20 somethings at our house snorkel almost every day and dont get infections. I snorkel about once a week and dont - but interestingly enough get ear infections from my mom's clorinated pool.

Last week hadave and I snorkled the tide pools got done and I was looking around and there was toilet paper and sh** everywhere. Why we didn't see before we got in the water, uck. I was thinking a boat or something must have unloaded nearby. It will be a while before I go again.

Scott, were you at the Champagne Pond or the ungated tide pools? I have seen what you described near the Champagne Pond, but never at the Waiopae (sp?) ponds.

Cheers,

Makes me a little wary of heading that way to get in the water too... I've been there, but not in the water.. yet.

It was right out front of the parking lot at Kapoho, about a week ago. At first I thought it was just a single inconsiderate act maybe done at night, but there was too much scattered everywhere. Sorry folks, but what I saw is what I saw.
