We try to recycle all of our plastic bags. Hate the thought that the turtles or whales might see them as jelleyfish or an afternoon snack. But, sometimes, a particular plastic bag that makes it into our house cannot be put in the recycle "bag" as it has something in it that might become really rancid and smelly. So, those particular bags get stretched and then tied with a big old knot in the middle of it and put into the regular garbage. That knot gives the bag weight...and also prohibits it from looking like a jelly fish if it should ever make its way back into the ocean.
Cloth bags, etc. are a great idea..but there are times when an extra bag, plastic or otherwise is needed. Just be aware.

Every paper bag means trees chopped down. Or did you forget that?

Most of these plastic bags are made from oil. Our HUGE need for oil causes our boys and girls to be flown all over the world to be shot at. Trees sound like a better solution. Once we are dependent on trees, more solutions will come from that, like BAMBOO. Paper isn't the best solution but its much better than plastic.

Oh, I get it. The Iraq war was caused by plastic bags! Why didn't I think of that!

You would be correct if every paper bag were made anew. We have something called recycling these days. Most bags at the stores I shop at are made from recycled paper. We actually reuse our paper bags. The local Trader Joe gives a small discount if you bring your own bag.

Yep, lets raise the price of food some more... the stores are not going to charge "extra" for a bag, they will just raise the prices of the products to cover the bag.

Not saying use paper. I bring my own canvas bags. I just THROW UP into paper bags when I hear people say that Government is the problem, rather than the solution. We have seen what happens when we outsource our army to KBR -- troops get electrocuted in their own showers.
The whole philosophy that Government can never be part of the solution needs to be chucked into the landfill along with disposable diapers.

I do hate those plastic bags, but I have reservation about people bringing canvass bags in that have been at home. I'm sure Glen is anal retentive about cleanliness, but many people aren't. The idea of having a steady stream of home bred mutant roaches being droped off in the grocery I shop in is unappealing.
I vote for recycled paper or those corn starch based bags.

Its the other way around... Roaches come from the store paper bags/boxes! Absolutely do not bring those into your house unless of course you want roach eggs and I'm not for any more competition for food crops either for gosh sakes people are starving for corn!
