Learned at a Democratic Party committee meeting on Sunday that lawyers are sponsoring a mayoral forum in the Naniloa Hotel's Crown Room beginning at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 19. The public is invited.

Hey Damon, good to see you and your son at the rally this a.m. Awesome victory, no?

Re: your question on the candidates who will be at the Bar Association mayoral forum on Aug. 19, the only thing I've been able to learn today is that the "top 4" candidates (your guess is as good as mine...Kenoi, Pilago, Inouye and Higa?????) are confirmed. Just googled to find out who is head of Hi County Bar Assoc. and it's Ken Goodenow, who works in the County Clerk's office, phone 961-8491. So I'll try calling tomorrow.

Thanks for the update Frankie.

It was good seeing you too.... and an important victory for the people and future generations here in Puna.

My mom was "semi-political" back in the days..... I remember sitting in the office of the local colleges presidents office protesting with her to allow a pre-school on the campus when I was the same age as my son now.

My son is still young... but I know that what happened today, will benefit him and other keiki o ka aina in the future.

Just wish he would have let me stick around a bit longer.

To the person that gave my son a small piece of paper to hold up and act as it was a sign.... mahalo....

It made my son feel as if he was participating. Was really hard for me to even think about holding a sign, my son, an umbrella and his snacks.

Thanks to you folks that also entertained him....

This rally wasn't for us...it's for the future of Puna.

Ok...thread drift... my bad.

Mayoral forum... Please keep us updated on who will/won't be attending.

Mahalo

Howzit, Y'all...happy Pau Hana Friday!

Here's the full scoop on the Bar Association's mayoral forum. That they've got Dan Boylan as the moderator is great...he's the go-to guy in HNL for political commentary and has a regular program on the local PBS station (Channel 10 on cable).

PRESS RELEASE

Dan Boylan to Host 08/19/08 Mayoral Forum

The Hawai‘i County Bar Association is pleased to announce that prominent university scholar, political commentator and journalist, Dan Boylan will moderate a dialogue between Big Island mayoral hopefuls, State Senator Lorraine R. Inouye, Billy Kenoi, Councilmember K. Angel Pilago and Councilmember Stacy Higa. The event is to be held at the Crown Room of the Naniloa Volcanoes Resort on Tuesday, August 19, 2008, at 5:30 p.m. and the public is encouraged to attend.
The board of the Hawai‘i County Bar Association decided to limit the number of participants to four candidates: those who received the greatest number of contributions according to the latest reports filed with the State Campaign Spending Commission. “It was a difficult decision and an interesting debate,” according to County Bar President Kenneth Goodenow. “Most members thought that while other organizations hosted forums, they followed similar formats consisting of asking each candidate in turn the same questions. Given the number of candidates, the opportunity for dialogue and debate was severely limited.” In order to ensure fairness, the board has asked Dan Boylan to devise the format of the forum. “Dan Boylan is a very experienced and capable moderator, as evidenced by his program, Island Insights, which airs on Hawaiian Public Television,” said Goodenow.
The Hawai‘i County Bar Association does not support or endorse any candidate. While its Charter allows for the making of recommendations on questions of law and legislation, the organization is neutral when it comes to candidates for any election. “In addition to promoting high professional standards for the practice of the law in our community, such as providing continuing legal education seminars and interaction with the Judiciary, the Hawai‘i County Bar Association seeks to advance public understanding and participation in the legislative process and the rule of law, cornerstones of our American democracy,” said Bar President Goodenow.
For further information please contact Kenneth Goodenow at 895-2751.

Very interesting MikeG... have you posted this anywhere else?

This is the first I've heard of this site, and I raised a question about it over here

Welcome to Punaweb and I hope you continue to post here. We truly need more people that care about politics in Puna.

*edit* argh... I was told never to talk about religion or politics.... I feel like bowing out for awhile.[^]

*edit* Did anyone realize there is also another Forum this Wednesday?

*edit* Sorry... I don't have any further information at this time...

I do find it odd that there hasn't been much publicity about it though, and the little I did find was only in the Kona side paper even though it is a Hilo side forum.

Wow!
A bar brawl.
"At the wrong place." That is not a lie, considering the place was a rowdy bar at 2.30am.

First lesson for anyone in public eye (civil service, appointed, elected): Life in a fish bowl. No bad behavior or even the appearance thereof.

Back in 2002, we had a condo at Country Club where Shooter's bar is (our son took it over and lived in it while he attended HCC in 2003 and 2004).
For anyone looking for a place to get drunk, make noise, and be rowdy with the rowdies, this the place.
Not much there for those with an interest in keiki and ohana though ...
This man had a family at home and he was drinking with thugs in a bar at 2:30 am? Hello?

Damon, I read about the August 13 forum on your blog, but the linked article didn't say when and where it will be held. Is there any new info?
