What I Like About the Big island

No heating bills, the rain, soft breezes,kindred spirits,hiking in the forests and ravines,growing and eating my favorite fruit,pinapples!! Lots of space to breath! Oh so much more....

Running into the same people I've seen for years, running into new people (none of these truly "running into" -- I'm against auto or pedestrian accidents). That old Japanese lady that I see in Pahoa town (she lives near you, doesn't she Rob?). The artwork at places like Wailoa Center, EHCC, Volcano Arts Center, etc. The sheer beauty of Red Road (yeah, I know it ain't red anymore -- anyone else remember how the County offered red paint to make it red again and no one would do it?).

As a Recovering Texan, I can add a few things that the Big Island is lacking that make it attractive. These would include rattlesnakes, sandstorms (windy days at Hapuna Beach don't count,) higher property taxes, the frequently mentioned extreme heat, voters who would still probably go for Bush if given another chance, and a muddy ocean. I might have added drunk cowboys, but I've spotted some of those near Waimea, and besides, they can be fun under the right circumstances.

That from my kitchen window I can get a glimpse of the ocean and from my back lanai I can watch the sky change color over the mountain in the evening....
That a girl from South Carolina feels just as much at home here as I did in my small community on the East Coast--even down to the quirky neighbors who have become across-the-fence friends.... That I can be in Pahoa one day for work or play and then in Waimea the next. Or at the beach on the Kohala coast and then back to the comfort of the rain in Hilo.... That I can grow things in my 'garden'. Ti trees are very forgiving! And we have fresh oranges for the taking.... Variety, diversity, the natural beauty...the list could go on and on! Everyone of the things that you like about the Big Island has made the new Adventure for me a reality. I can't wait to get there... its only a few weeks away. James here is a pic of me in 1978 at Kalapana Beach. Those were the days my friend !
