What I Like About the Big island
#21
The cool damp breeze as I awake
The misty rain that wets my walk
The gentle cooing that doves make

The island girls, such curves and fit
The way they walk with a natural sway
The wife just caught me looking, oh sh*t!

The friendly smile most times returned
The easy chat with friends just met
The gifts of knowledge I have learned

The scattered showers all through the night
The gentle sounds the rains make
The stars between so clear, so bright

The island time that's so calm and slow
The contractor who missed the date
The morrow he will most likely show

The best part of this island for me
The glory of sunsets and rises
The beauty of the caressing sea

That when it rains... it pours.

It's amazing... living here where one day can be perfectly sunny and the next can give us this in the middle of July.

It is the way the way it is.

tmyc,

Nice pic! The water is up around the base of the coconut trees. This indicates the photo was taken after November 1975, when the quake dropped the level everything from Kapoho to Kalapana and beyond by up to 5 '! Note: Kehena was TWO beaches before that.

(I first attempted to write this below in the year 2000 at Punalu'u Beach when I was back in the island after 25 years' absence.

...

Aloha O Kalapana,
Sweet Paradise by the sea.

Aloha O Kalapana,
You were a friend to me.

I slept beneath your swaying palms;
With you I read Proverbs and Psalms

At your bosom I learned to live.
The peace you gave me, to the world I’d like to give.

You were my born-again birthplace.
In your beauty I saw God’s face.

Far and distant I wandered ‘way from you;
Far from your breeze so soft and sea so blue.

Evermore I thought you would be there,
And I would return to say I care.

Though now the palm trees stand no more,
Forever I’ll cherish my time on your shore.

Aloha O Kalapana,
Goddess Pele has taken you away.

Aloha O Kalapana,
Love you I shall for all my days.

Aloha O Kalapana

there in the high country
'ohia fruits ripen from the kanilehua rain
red lehua throughout the forest
maunaloa appears in all her majesty
with the breeze of the kehau
"my heart and my love reachout for the brightness and the light
here in the warmth of the great wide world
amid the splendor and the lush beauty"
a blossom that won't be wilted by the sun
and the red lehua stands in the wind

first 5 lines are mine.
the next three are quoted, but i have forgotten the author
the last two lines are mine.

"chaos reigns within.
reflect, repent and reboot.
order shall return."

microsoft error message with haiku poetry
"a great many people think they are thinking when they are merely rearranging their prejudices."
