Hawaiian has upped its mileage plan awards to higher levels...Now its 15,000 miles for an "inter-island" roundtrip and higher for mainland trips. I guess you could see the handwritting on the wall for this with gas prices so high.

Delta has taken the whole thing even farther, and their frequent flyers are up in arms about it. It's just another sort of inflation, and experts are recommending spending miles quickly since more devaluations are likely down the road.

I told my wife two months ago that this will happen. Now I am just waiting for the first airline to have the balls to discontinue the frequent flyer program altogether!

Everything is getting more costly. I just checked the price of airfare to Hilo. Unaffordable. If this continues we might have to reconsider the Big Island. It's getting too costly to get over there. Very depressing.

Yep, we "cashed" ours in last month to make another trip to Hawaii of course. I'm willing to bet the restrictions are going to be more numerous also.

the other night on the evening news an airline pilot said that 70% of an airline ticket goes toward fuel cost! Just imagine a jumbo 747 holds somewhere in the neighborhood of 400 to 405 passengers.
I just know some of these airlines are cutting back on maintenance too. It's just a matter of time one of these airplanes will go down because of this!
Keep in mind most airlines have raised their ticket prices 200% or more from a year ago. I'm afraid these prices might be here to stay too?

Without these remarkable people the island would be nothing. With them it's a carnival. They are generous, courageous and comic. They awake each morning to a fresh day that has forgiven the previous day's outrages. In the pursuit of money they are irresponsible. In the pursuit of happiness, dedicated. They are the perpetual adolescents of the ocean, the playboys of the pacific.
