Blue Cheer's frenetic, loud, and highly electified version of "Summertime Blues" was one of my favorites in high school. The band was rated as the loudest in the Bay Area at one time by a prof at UC-Berkeley, and the lead guitarist had to drop out of the group due to deafness. To add to the festive atmosphere, their name came from a popular "brand" of LSD in circulation at the time. I still have the "Vincibus Eruptum" album and occasionally play it.
Blue cheers, Jerry
