SMU and June came out with the run and gun and shovel pass. It looked exactly like Hawaii but in different uniforms. Didn’t he learn from the Sugar Bowl last year that type of offence is limited when playing with the big boys?
They got shut down after 2 touchdowns in the first quarter and took a real beating 56-27. And they played Rice, which is an academic school not known for athletics.
I hope SMU is happy with the 2 million a year they gave him in salary?[8)]

SMU is also considered an "independent" so they don't have to abide by all the NCAA rules that other schools have to abide by.

Huh? SMU is
owned by the United Methodist Church; isn't an independent but a member of Conference USA and the NCAA; and it sure would come as surprise to Mustang football fans that they don't have to abide by NCAA rules, since that body imposed the 'death penalty' on the program in 1986 for recruiting violations.

Aloha Gene and thanks for helping Damon understand about the NCAA and what the Mustangs went through. I was out most of the day and didn’t get back until dinner time.
Furthermore if he thinks that 2 million is a drop in the bucket he has to remember that Jones is the 21st highest paid head coach in ALL the NCAA football. First year head coach with SMU and pulling down that type of money isn’t money well spent. He’s not in the WAC anymore.

They were 1-11 last year. I'm confident my man June will improve on that. If not, well the "run and shoot" will be June running and the alumni shooting!

Uh, Damon, I hate to join in jumping on your Texas football knowledge, but as an alumnus of the University of Texas, I can tell you that if the coach wants a jet to go recruiting, he gets it. UT is heavily endowed with alumni money for such purposes, and athletics at UT is a self-supporting auxiliary of the University receiving zero funds from the State Treasury. I know this because they send me full-color solitation glossies about four times a year with the pitch, "Make sure the Longhorns get what they need." Of course there are limitations as to how such money can be spent and it goes through a regulated foundation, but they are NCAA and Big Twelve Confererce rules, not the State. And SMU works under the same rules, just in a different conference.

Kahunascott, I'd say SMU put on a better showing than our beloved Warriors did in the 'Swamp'.
Have you forgotten what happened to UH their first game under then, new head coach June Jones? If memory serves me correctly, UH lost to USC by over 50 points on June's first game for Manoa.
