Strategy for "seeing" a 2nd floor view b4 building

We suspect that we may have a nice second floor view of the ocean from our 3rd avenue hpp lot, but since there are no trees to climb on the lot it is hard to know for sure.

Are there any strategies for "seeing" what the view might look like in advance of building? With no tree to lean a ladder against, it's hard to know.

3rd Avenue is pretty flat. Are there any 3rd avenue people out there with two-floor homes? If so, what can you see from your second floor?

suggestions for seeing a view potential

climb on your car hood
borrow an a frame ladder
drive down the road on a higher incline and see if you can see ocean
ask any neighbors with 2nd story to see if you can check out their views

you definitely have view potential...what part of 3rd are you located on?

Thanks for the ideas. The problem with the car hood suggestion is that I can't get it onto the property (we can't even walk in...too much brush), and the house site is probably 6 feet above the street level where the car would be parked.

We live on the mainland and don't know any neighbor, so borrowing a frame ladder might be a problem.

3rd Ave is flat; there really is no incline that I can recall noticing.

I think the last suggestion is the one that works best! I am hoping that someone on 3rd (or even 4th) could go upstairs and snap a photo to give us a sense of what we would see.

As for your location question, we're very close to Paradise and 3rd.

I sometimes tie an extension ladder to the lumber rack with the feet in the bed of the pickup.
Or a crane or a skyhook.

i live on 3rd and have a little view between the trees from the 2nd floor. it all depends on the trees on 1st and 2nd street. what lot is it

We are a few lots south of 3rd/paradise. We don't have too many trees between us and 1st street, at least not yet. Nothing stops a person from planting a mango in front of us, of course!

Given how cheap the land (and houses) are becoming, I could buy something closer and use the 3rd ave lot for a garden.

I knew a guy on the mainland who took amazing concert pictures using a digital camera attached to a pvc pole with a really long extension on the trigger cable that let him click the pictures. You could also build a simple periscope using cardboard tubing and mirrors. I made one when I was a kid, and as I recall it was really simple to do.

Most digital cameras have a delay mode designed so that you can pose the picture and then get in it. That should work with the pole idea, except I don't know about the focus. If you figure it out I would love it if you could take one from my lots. They are midway on Third between Paradise and Kaloli, lots 189 and 190. There is a rise that begins right at lot 191. There were new houses on 187 and 188 when I was there last. I wish I had thought of the pole idea when I was there.
