What Has Worked Well for You (Lately?)
#1
So many threads of late have been about problems, misunderstandings or mistakes,so I thought I would ask: what has gone well for you all lately? Any unexpected effort, graciousness, help or inspiration?

I will start with positives that come to mind in the last 3 or 4 days: 1) a landscaper's helper today that worked on our project and tackled each stone, weed or shovel-full of dirt, cinder and mulch as if it was his first and last of the day, with maximum effort and concentration and pride in a job well done. I was gratelful for his energy and self-initiated work ethic and gave him extra commensurate with his effort. 2) At the Sunday market, a vendor offered me a fifth avocado for free since she noted that one I had already chosen was just a bit bruised. 3) Sears honoring a sale price posted on a Stainless Steel fridge when it was actually supposed to be for 'white only' but that was not clearly noted as such (a $300 price difference that they absorbed due to the inaccurate pricing and information sheet).

There are roses in the thorns if you look for them!

I woke up this morning and I was looking down at the grass, not up at it. Next to me was a partner who loves me dearly, thought God only knows why. I got text messages from my daughters in the mainland who are looking forward to the end of their college school year and anticipating good grades, a summer working with friends, and a visit to Big Island. My house, though untidy, was almost warm and very dry on this day when cold rain filled my catchment tank and watered my plantings. For breakfast I had fresh baked banana bread made from fruit my neighbor picked from his tree and gave to me. My Diet Pepsi wasn't flat. I spent a half-hour chatting over coffee with the guy who is helping us to transform our backyard from scraped rock to a verdant garden and made a new friend who welcomed me to his Island home. And the flies that have been living rent-free in my kitchen have decided to visit someone else's home. All this happened before 10:30 this morning, and the rest of the day was equally uneventful and equally full of blessings. Lou Gerhig has gone to his final rest, so I am hereby claiming the title of the "luckiest man alive"

I have the best neighbors! After those thunderstorms we had, the laminated sign my partner made with our house numbers got trashed...early one morning I was greeted, unexpectedly by a man standing in my driveway...kind of freaked me out at first but then he presented me with a handcarved sign with our house numbers and welcomed me to the neighborhood. Another neighbor noticed all of our new landscaping and our beginnings of a nursery...during the drought he stated that he had a well and offered us all the water we wanted from his well...and he's a horticulturist so we have a great rapport with him and his wife. After living the past ten years with neighbors from hell ( mainland) it is such a nice feeling to have such nice neighbors!

I met two of the absolute nicest lot owners yesterday in Kapoho Vacationland through one of the realtors. They are moving to Mexico eventually but they are just so nice, I just had to hug them when I was leaving as if I had known them forever.

it was just such a pleasant afternoon with them!

I passed my GREs last night & had some great kids to sub today, and came home to a happy wonder dog, with tail wagging a mile a minute!

We finished our taxes a few days ago and felt such relief at the news; the giant crack in our wall is not too much bigger of late, so I am going to turn it into a vine with beautiful leaves; Mom moved and is safe and adjusting well to her new digs in Hilo Town; I have a new craft room and a new craft as well; we are relatively healthy and happy with great neighbors and friends; I finished cleaning one home today and have another home to clean tomorrow, gratefully; the weather was gorgeous today driving from Kapoho to Pahoa through the trees...doesn't get any better than that.

I had a great sandwich for lunch. Dark Russian rye, cream cheese and pineapple slices. The weather was beautiful, our second day of warm weather. I will make sun tea tomorrow. All the news at my Doctor appointment was good. Our lawn is greening up. My pets are healthy. All good things today. I hope everyone had some part of today that brought them joy. Peggy

Life goes on, with you or without you.
Peace and long life
