Thanks for nice note "katz. I have a 40footer in Waimea that I rested on discarded pallets and tires off the side of the road plus my Dakota truck stored in there so I hope it's not warping!
I have modest needs so my idea to fight the claustrophobia isn't to "doublewide" but to have a 20' x 20' covered concrete pad carport/patio area between 2 20 footers for that Hawaiian style outdoor living. I know I can't envision being in 20' x8' box all day so maybe can have a couch pushed up against one container- any cat or dog would love that. As well as one of those wood burning sheepherder stove or concrete block stove but keep it away from the gas tank!

I too would like the pair of 20's with the covered lanai between them, but I'm not on island. For cutting costs, those tow trucks that just winch your car onto a tilted flatbed, can deliver a 20 footer. I would choose a nearby towing company and be flexible about deliver so he could tow a car one way, then return with one of your twenty foot containers. Roof trusses to span 8+20+8 will not be cheap. You would need a horizontal beam across each open end of the lanai if you turned the truss direction to only span 20'. I wonder which is cheaper, fewer long trusses or more short trusses plus two beams.

heyyou, that is exactily what I am now planning on doing. Have you found any good pics online? I am trying to explain the idea to my husband and some pics would be helpful!

yeah the problem is the roof- I was thinking of a trex deck- hopefully 20' of unsupported trex not going sag??? maybe can support it in the middle. I had a pic from Popular Mechanics that I sent to cat last year. gotta figure out how link it.

Check out this site...the guy is doing some really cool stuff. I went over to New jersey (I'm in NYC) to check things out and it is really interesting. I was concerned about feeling like I would be living in a metal box...you know, condensation, etc. They say it's not a problem. In the end, we decided to design our own house and build.
