oh, and I expect I'll be able to blame stuff on pseudo-president Bush for the rest of my life, as that is what it will take do undo the screwjob effected over these last 8 years.

Really? I thought the Senate had to confirm the Fed Chairman...

Actually, no.

A bipartisan panel, not the Senate, approves or disapproves the appointee as directed by the president. They have no input as to who that person is going to be, they simply get to say yes or no.

I think that is called the Senate Confirmation Process.

so again, they have some say. Plus all these appointees are subject to oversight of the congress.

No mater how you look at it, we are a 2 party system, and only are rare times in our history has 1 party had all the power... even Next year, the Senate agenda will be set by the Democrats, but nothing will move without some republicans.

I wonder when Rob is going to step in and tell me to shut up? I know, I know... its not Hawaii...

The problems within America are not caused by capitalism or freedom, but mainly because of a corrupt to party system that panders to special interest.

I am against term limits, but I think Term limits and a fair tax system is our only hope.

When I say fair tax, I mean we all pay an equal percent. I don't think it should be automatically with held either. We all should have to write a check every month.

That way the electorate would want to cut spending and keep taxes low.

I would agree, corruption and ignorance in the general population which allows corruption to go more or less uncontested. Consider the current race--how could one with the backdrop of a collapse of the banking system run one of the Keeting 5 as a contending canditate? Especially one with a son involved in the banking system that deep-sixed the bank he ran in July--and got out handsomely-- and it wasn't even newsworthy. You can only do so because people are in general as dumb as a box of rocks and are more than willing to stay that way.

But poverty breeds ignorance, and capitalizing on ignorance has become the primary tool to win elections. How optimistic am I? I am, actually, but don't believe government will be relevant much further in the future.

the really problematic part also is that corporate charters demand maximizing profit for shareholders at all costs...taking the henry ford example further...when the head of the union asked ford who was gonna buy his cars if he didn't pay his employees enough to afford them..ford thought it through and decided that he would increase worker pay and build the best most reliable cars he could...well guess what? the dodge brothers and a bunch of shareholders took him to court(dodge v ford) and sued him because they felt he was paying his employees too much and making cars too good and that was cutting into the shareholders' profits...guess what? they won...
so until you rewrite corporate charters so their only purpose isn't to maximize profits by all 'legit' means there won't be much change...

Jay,
That is true about what you say of the Keating 5 deal but let's not forget Obama's deep ties with Freddie and Fannie.

That Nutty ass Ron Paul don't look so nutty now, huh?

Yep! It is terrible when the free and open exchange of concepts and ideas spontaneously occurs. We can't have that, someone might learn something.

What we should do is all agree and drink the Hawaiian punch.
