The high cost of land in Hawaii does make it more difficult. That being said, I have seen countless jacked up trucks whose idiotic "improvements" probably cost as much as what I payed for my property in Eden Roc. There should be at least some people out there putting their money where their mouth is, and I'm sure there are, but not enough to be significant. Meanwhile, the most vocal segment of native Hawaiian activists is the one I have the least confidence would be able make a serious go of things on their own.

I agree with Crunchy, but there also needs to be some sort of recognition for the Hawaiian Nation ... and yet as it will be with all of us as residents. There is no way to send us all back to the mainland and we can be a positive force in the future of Hawaii. We can all bring some good things to the table. If we give back to the land and it's people it will be a better place. If we learn about and respect the history and culture here on the islands, that can only bring about positive growth. The gripers and complainers can go back on the next plane from Hilo. There is no room for that in today's world.

I am with Crunchy and Jay.
It seems some people do not want to be self sufficient.
The ones that do are and the ones that don't certainly never will be.
Until you can live with yourself, you will always be dependent on others and you will always be disappointed.
Because society and government will never fill the whole that a taker has in their belly. The locust just consumes all before him then sh1ts on the barren land.

It's fortunate that some of the "doers" are also generous; for some of the "takers" are sometimes not old enough or otherwise able to help themselves.

and then there are those people who are losing or foreclosing on their homes because of the latest scam by people who say they are representatives of a hawaiian sovereignty movement or nation:

the current movement against restoring the hawaiian nation or sovereignty seems based mainly on 2 principles?...the overthrow was by citizens of hawaii and that made it ok to rebel(might makes right)...and even if that wasn't ok ..then hawaiians don't exist anymore or never did and the idea of oha, ksbe or hawaiian sovereignty is moot because there are no hawaiians and never were....
so if that's true.. i'm just celebrating the relief i feel knowing ...

I must say I am no expert on Hawaiian history, but how many people died when Hawaii became a state? How many died when it became a nation?
