Hilo gas prices continue to fall
#51
I don't think it will go up much, I am guessing it will stay between 50-75 for a time.

I just find it hard to believe it cost $1.00 to ship a gallon of gas to Hawaii.

How many times are we going to have to tell you this ain't Texas[Wink]

Not only are they shipping it to Oahu, they then have to process it on Oahu, truck it back to the Ships, and Ship it again to the Neighbor Islands.

Just be glad that they unload the gas on the Hilo side instead of the Kona side... otherwise our prices on this side would be as High as Konas.

well... there is storage tanks in Hilo... and from what I can tell.. there is one company that does it all..

and what does that have to do with Texas...

Is Hawaii the land of only monopolies and no competition?

Gas is cheaper in the Kona side... just stop by Costco.

Only at Costco is gas cheaper compared to Hilo in the last 72 hours.[Wink]

What it has to do with Texas... Well doesn't Texas have a bunch of Oil Fields?[8]

Any who. $2.09 in Honolulu today. I was 9 cents from winning that cold one from Macuu222.
Well since it is going to go up from now on, I guess my hopes of victory are dashed.

Seriously, I think we are headed for a deep and prolonged depression that will make the great depression of the 30's look like the roaring 20s. As the unemployment numbers rise and consumer confidence wanes, gas will get down to 89 cents on the mainland and say 1.49 in Hawaii.

You see it can't go much than 80 cents when there is 40 cents tax on the stuff.

But is wont really matter to 25-30 percent of the population, for they wont have a car to drive or a job to go to anyway.

Opec can cut all the production they want but they are trying to sell oil to make money the feed their sh-thole countries economies. So their collusion wont have and effect. between low demand and speculators now betting on low demand gas is gonna be cheap as dirt.

The only thing that could help slow the price crash is global strife.
And the value of the dollar will crash and that will cause the perceived cost of fuel to rise. But is yo tie the cost of fuel to a benchmark like gold, it will really, really be cheap.

I would be very supprised if they do any trucking of the Hilo bound oil before it gets to Hilo. I would imagine that the oil is piped directly from the tanker to the refinery and then the gas is piped back to the barge. Seeing as how it has to get refined somewhere, I agree that a dollar surcharge seems excessive and is probably due to a lack of competition.

I don't live in Hilo, I live in Pahoa...[Wink]
and we have been to Costco 4 times in the last 4 months and every time gas was cheaper at Costco than Malama or Woodlands CenterĂ½.

And yes Texas has oil fields... but the Gasoline has to be shipped around just like everywhere else. I find it hard to believe that it costs a $1.00 a gallon to ship it here. My guess the state is in bed with the current provider and I bet the county wont let anyone build a new storage tank/distributor facility. That way someone makes a killing on the all of it.
