All existing rumble strips were milled out and paved over, trust me they are gone. You are confusing the striping eradication with rumble strips. In order to restripe the road a small grinder is used and it only takes off the old stripe and a small amount of the existing asphalt. The DOT requires this method of removal. If the old rumble strips were left in place you would know about it.

Infrastructure should be paid for by the tax payers not the business. Having the business pay is a hidden tax, and is filtered in such a way that it costs even more for the infrastructure.
I have a problem with the double standard.
How much money does the Makuu Market give back in the the way of taxes vs Home Depot?

BUT the Pahoa Fire Station improvement - who is the drunkard that painted/applied the white shoulder lane separation stripe for OVER 300 yards - that resembles the curves of a playboy bunny and not the straight and narrow . IF whoever did it could not see their mistake in 10 FEET - they should be looking for another job! [

Menehune, I was wondering the same thing. I actually think I saw a job posting recently for someone to paint stripes on highways, maybe that's why. The first time I saw it, I thought, WTF?

That squiglly line is a temporary tape marking, and will go away come striping time.

As you can see noted by gtill’s post it’s not paint. Only temp reflective tape that will be removed at the time the thermo plastic permanent striping is installed. The temp striping is required by the DOT for those of you who can’t drive without a white line on the side of the highway. No grinder needed here it will peel off with a bit of heat from a torch, and it will not damage the new pavement.
If you think you can do a better job not even knowing what it takes to install the temp tape and make it stick, (once it’s down you can’t move it) come on out after Christmas we will be installing the line on the Mauka side. Just maybe you would like to supervise my guys and get it applied straight or maybe not!

Funny how so many pay attention to a squiglly line. If it were perfectly painted no one would have noticed it. Because it is squiglly everyone is aware that it is there. Maybe all lines should be squiglly, it may keep people in their own lanes.
I remember being at a HDOT liaison meeting held at Maku’u market place a few years ago. I was talking to one of the candidates for public office and that person said to me when I questioned this very issue about the $600,000 proposed project. That person’s simple answer was “come on Lack, after all, we took all of their land the least thing that we can do is give them back a turn lane” This was when Auntie E was running for the council seat, and NO it wasn’t her.
