Commuting question
#1
And now for something of great political and social import!!! Despite living here almost four years, I have never traveled from my home in Central HPP to Hilo in the morning rush hour. I have jury duty beginning Tuesday and have to get parking sorted out and be in court by 8am. How long should I allow for the trip downtown? Thanks.

Cheers,
Jerry

Depends on if you put make-up on in the car or at home [Big Grin]

Give yourself 90 minutes and pray there is no wrecks on the way.

It's better to be early then .... arrested for contempt.

I haven't served jury duty on this island. I did for a gruesome case on Oahu...etc.

Isn't parking free or don't they have a lot for jurors? It was on Oahu... I'd be irked if it wasn't here.

Or is this just "Jury Call" where they are selecting the jury for the case?

Either way, you shouldn't have to pay for parking... I believe.

I do recommend getting there early though. If you have lots of time to kill, there is a place called cruizin coffee w/in walking distance to grab of cup of fuel if need be.

Geez, an hour and a half?!?! It's Jury Call at this point, and I have not yet been assigned to a specific jury.

Jerry someone is pulling your chain. Just drive up the closest main drag, Paradise, Kaloli, or what ever and turn on 22nd. Go to Shower and turn left. At 130 it is a merge lane. Traffic is usually going 50-55 at that point until you get close to Kawailani. It shouldn't take more than 45-50 minutes. Even with rain. Any accidents and all bets are off.

Yes, Royall, you're right on both points. I just talked to my neighbor who works across the street from the courthouse, and she says 45 minutes.

I'm not pulling any chains... I'm just making sure he gets there on time!

I'm one to typically arrive either really early.... or LATE. [B)]

Just reflecting on this topic makes me so happy I'm back in Puna.

I used to live just outside of Waikiki and worked near the airport.

8.3 Driving miles.

I kid you not... I left at least an hour ahead of time and would just barely make it to work some days.

I apologize for my inaccurate time Jerry. Leave at least 60 minutes early just to be safe. [Big Grin]

When I worked at the County Bldg, right across the street from the State Bldg, worked started 7:45am and 20 miles exactly from HPP 6th.
About 7am out the door and I was good -- my parking space was reserved.
