Damon, My place is closer to the Island Trust Realty.... didn't hear a thing. The Police Station is not actually a Police Station, it is a substation and is not regularly manned.

That was not meant as a personal attack it was meant to point out that thing are not as bad as you painted them.
you may have facts and you have options, and I disagreed with your opinion that things are at a breaking point. Rudedogg did not sound like he was anywhere near the breaking point... We can watch, listen or read the news and hear how bad they claim things are, we do need to blow things out of proportion here also. We should have the ear of a few police offerers next Saturday, how about we ask them what we can do, or better yet, call the main station and see what they need... maybe we can setup an houry drive through town, I might be able to take the 4am shift, as I have to be a work at 6am or a 9pm run... quote: ----------------------------------------------------------- I do not believe that America is better than everybody else... Also, if Alarm systems were not prices out of sight here, maybe the businesses would have them?

A vigilante is a person who violates the law in order to exact what they believe to be justice from criminals, because they think that the criminal will not be caught or will not be sufficiently punished by the legal system.
I don't think many of us here are wanting to handle the punishment part of our system, so I am thinking we want to help in the apprehension of the crooks not the beating down of them. ----------------------------------------------------------- I do not believe that America is better than everybody else... Certainly no one is advocating vigilantism. From my view, vigilantism is absolutely what we need to prevent, but is what will be the inevitable result if policy and law enforcement fails. This needs to be avoided at all costs. Certainly options do exist. They need to be implemented immediately, as it looks as if the situation could get pretty out of hand.
As for other issue, certainly my goals are not to belittle anyone's efforts, but rather to insist that we face some real urgency here with getting some issues solved. This will involve personal involvement and perhaps unconventional means. We will need to be very inventive. We will need to admit some things have worked and others have failed and the future itself isn't going to be like the past was, and some forethought and creativity will be very important. The proof, ultimately, will be in the pudding, and our successes or failures will be what they apparently are for all to see, and too soon, I expect. So sure, let's stay away from mere critique. I personally think it's very easy to tell the difference between constructive disagreement and mere critique. Mere critique merely criticizes. Constructive disagreement offers alternatives.

In the early 90’s I worked road construction in downtown Miami at night. At that time B&E was out of control and the police force couldn’t cover the city with adequate protection.
They subcontracted with Wackenhut Security to patrol the high crime areas. It was a simple solution and at an affordable cost. They were in radio contact with the police and were able to report to them in real time, just another set of eyes in the community. It is a deterrent because the last thing a burglar wants is to be identified. The bad guys will move on. Exactly, and what I was actually looking for at the moment to research costs before suggesting it. Take a collection in town and hire one for a month. It will fix the problem.
This is a fine example of "alternatives." It will cost some personal money, but local government is simply not in the position to provide the coverage needed. Recognizing that in the current environment the means may well not exist, personal action such as this may well be necessary. It could, well be, a pot hole filled.
