Where to Dine on Valentine's Day
#11
My first choice would be Kilauea Lodge in Volcano. Always a pleasant drive up and back and can be coupled with a visit to the Park.

Kilauea Lodge or Paolo's would be my choices. They both consistently are excellent.

When Paolo's is good, it's really good. But it's been "hit-or-miss" for me these days. Our last two times it was mediocre. I'm wondering if they have two cooks?

I hate to hijack my own thread, but have any Punawebbers been to Merriman's? I would like to experience it because the chef (former chef, actually, I think) emphasizes local ingredients and I love Kamuela (the place I would have chose had I known it existed!).

Glen, you certainly should go to Merriman's, Peter (the owner) is a very well respected chef and he really is using local ingredients only. He even has a "Farm Tour" and he takes people to the farms he buys his produce from. I have eaten there several times and can only rave about his food.

we ate at pescatore when we first arrived. i'd give it a thumbs up. but, we were only able to make selections off the bar menu. so had the fresh fish sandwich.

has anyone eaten at the following:

nihon restaurant on banyan drive
seaside seafood restaurant & aquaculture farm on kalaniana'ole ave
cafe concerto on kilauea avenue
jay's island tapas on kilauea avenue
sombat's fresh thai cuisine on kanoelehua ave

if so, would you give them a thumbs up/down?
