Ineffectual Faye Hanohano

Damon,
The original post has nothing to due with Republican or Democratic parties or Fred Blas (you wrote that in) and which is best for Puna. Not to put words in your mouth but it seems that you would rather have a pitiable party affiliate in office then an aggressive community mined Rep. It’s about our State Rep and what her perception on what’s important to our community. Come on FIREWORKS two days a year? I ponder on how much time and money has been spent on this useless legislation.
And what happened in the Judiciary Community they didn’t even know the Bill existed and let clock run out on it.
I don’t care how you spin it she is poor representation for us, Hawaiian or otherwise.
It doesn’t matter if you’re Hawaiian or not, when a DRUNK DRIVER hits you head on you’re still dead.

That is simply not the case.

I think Marzi would have been a great candidate.

Yes, I am related to Auntie Faye.

But I'm a firm believer in once we get someone elected into the office whether we are behind them or not... we should encourage them and empower them instead of trying to bring them down...

Well at least until the next election comes around.

Until "Any" Said politician does something "Wrong/Illegal/etc." it serves no purpose in calling them ineffectual.

They would be more effectual if people actually made an effort to talk to them and work with them... instead of constantly bashing them.

People act as if it's the responsibility of the elected officials to bow down to every whim of every person when that's not the case.

I bashed a few politicians that I'm now working with... All is fair game.

Just I wish people would get more involved instead of bashing people. It doesn't take to much effort to schedule a meeting with her... If you need help... I can arrange that.

I just don't want to hear the excuse that she isn't being effective or inaccessible ... when quite honestly... those that I have spoken to, have said she is actually doing quite a good job of bringing in a lot of State money to Puna right now compared to past people elected.

I guess it's all who you to talk to.

I see the Dollars coming in... and the projects taking place. Didn't see them very much before Auntie took office. [?]

Damon is looking at the whole picture, it is called being impartial/ fair! So far 1,843 House bills have been introduced into the 2009 session (http://www.capitol.hawaii.gov/session200...troHB.aspx)
The ones that make the headlines are the issues that people feel strongly about and have voiced their opinions to their legislators.
Has anyone invited Rep. Faye Hanohana to a meeting to update the community on the progress of bills that are of concern to Puna?

The FIREWORKS bill made the front page. According to you alot of people must have felt strongly about it. Ha Ha

Damon,
I spoke with Mr. Blas this afternoon about Faye’s FIRECRACKER Bill. He said I could quote him and he said, ”What a waste of time and money. There are so many more important issues that our Rep should be dealing with. Things like creating jobs, food for the needy, roads and housing.”
Moreover, the bill wasn’t attended to in a timely manner (Faye not doing her job) and it didn’t even get heard.
You can’t see the forest from the trees when you say that I’m bashing elected officials.
It’s a simple scenario; they aren’t doing the job they were elected to do.
I’m just calling attention to her scantiness performance and direction.
It’s a very said time.

Faye did little or nothing in her first term so I do not find it surprising that she might do little or nothing in her second term. My expectations for Hanohano are very, very low.
Assume the best and ask questions.

As I posted on the governor topic, I am new to Hawaii politics and learning so I appreciate these discussions. We will live there before the next elections and I hope to be able to vote as an informed person.

Faye Hanohano fills a seat. That's it. When she first ran for office she told me she'd get elected because she had support from the unions. She's now been elected twice. Zip times 2. I expect nothing from her.
If for some peculiar reason she is supporting Walter Moe and Kaniu Stockdale's rumored ideas about a harbor at HPP and HPP becoming a township, then I think I have even more reason to vote her out of office.

Barbara, did you notice Faye Hanohano sitting in the back at the last HPP General Membership Meeting? The Township thing was more than just a rumor, as I think she actually drafted legislation for it that never got anywhere. (Imagine that!) The harbor idea is probably pure fantasy, given the environmental issues involved, not to mention the funding, but I'm not sure Ms. Hanohano actually supported that one.

Cheers,
Jerry
