Blog/Bloggers - Necessary?
#61
Relax Aaron,

You do a very good job and are appreciated. You have a focus which is not just you and that is good. You must understand that no one can do anything in a public way without attracting what might be called criticism or might just be called another point of view. This is the human condition. No big deal.

To you I say Mahalo.

First, that’s one heck of an ego to think that without you and the other bloggers, people would have no idea what’s really going on. There have been many post right here on Punaweb from non-bloggers who provided just as much if not more in-depth information not publicly discussed or printed. That's actually an insult to the people. (afterall, you didn't even know that the military is paying for almost all the Saddle Road improvements, and you still don't know the truth why Walmart pulled out of the DHHL deal)

On that note, this topic is very frustrating to someone like myself.I spend a couple hours of my free time each day updating my blog. Thus I feel like I'm getting unjustly criticized because I blog.

Oh Geez, your feelings got hurt.
What the heck did you expect? You write your blog. You post it on the internet for people to read. You want people to read it. You hold yourself up as a voice of truth, justice and the Hawaii Island way...And you’re upset because people comments on it in a manner you don’t like? If you don’t want anyone commenting on you or your writings, get a hardcover diary and keep it underneath your socks in the bottom drawer.

I find it ironic that you wrote the following

Sounds an awful lot like a criticism of DPW. So why can’t people comment freely about how they perceive the BI blogger scene? This would probably be a good time to throw in the “heat” and “frying pan” saying or maybe the "goose" and "gander" is appropriate.

You are putting words into my mouth. I stated Stephens Media cabal
has a pretty much iron lock on any news reporting here. Thus it is critical that there is blogs here on the Big Island.

Bob, educate me why Wal-Mart pulled out ? As far as the Saddle Road improvement project, are you imply Dave Gedeon (the project engineer
for CFLHD is lying). As far as I understand the State and the Feds
(through DAR) are jointly funding the Saddle Road project.

There is huge difference you are missing here. I don't mind a educated
discussion about the issues. However when people start take pot shots I draw the line.

Again there is huge difference in your argument. The DPW is taxpayer financed department. Thus they deserve to be scrutinized. As far as myself I'm just a regular Joe trying to make this a better place.

Books - newspapers -articles -websites -blogs... = INFORMATION

Could be : interesting, educating,boring,cheesy,entertaining,

stupid,genius...

(And multiple variations : genius but boring;stupid, but

entertaining...)

As in books, sometimes just a look on the cover makes you walk away..

"To each its own"... -that is the other point.

Once we out of school,we don't have to read anything we don't like...

And certainly don't have to buy the information

(literary or not).

BTW,if even a very small fee would have been needed to read the blog,

that would show a real number of "hits" some bloggers care too much about.

Anyway, I don't see a reason to get personal.

Aaron, if you’re trying to justify why you should be able to say something about DPW but nobody should be able to say anything about bloggers, you’re just feeding the self inflicting Woose factor.
Example, nobody says boo about what I feel, how I think, and what I believe in. Nobody has ever criticized me. Nobody has called my thoughts good, bad or neutral. Just like you are 100% free to think anything you like, feel anyway you like, and believe in anything you want without ever having to concern yourself with getting any criticism over it. That's A fact! Now, if I publish those thoughts, feelings and beliefs in a public forum for the world to read, and I know that people will be reading it, and I keep on posting and writings, it would be pure lunacy for me to think that I would never get any criticism.
You write, you post, you have your blog – you want people to read it, so accept the criticism like a man or stop writing in public If you can't take the criticism and get upset over criticism, aren’t you no better than whom you write about?

Now Saddle Road. Unless you’re willing to dig through line by line appropriations, just repeat what other say and forget about it. In time, 5 or 10 years from now, the info will be known and nobody will care at that point.

Walmart, simply put, they weren't prepared to adhere to the requirements for development of the site and they backed out. As bad a some think Hawaii's state & county government structure is bad, it did show that incentives and concessions are not needed. If they really wanted to build, they would have built. If all they were looking for was concessions and incentives to hold as poker chips for further considerations elsewhere on Hawaii, DHHL, Hawaii County, and the State called their bluff. Walmart was never going to build what they said in the way they said while maintaining what they said they would maintain, it was a ploy and they got caught, so away they went.

Bob, I think you should start a blog. As it seems you think you know it all.

That being said, I've been blogging 3.5 years (and writing letters to the editor much longer than that). Thus I have a track record of putting my opinion out there.I know I'll get criticism for what I say. However YOUR criticism went over the line.

I suspect I've rubbed you the wrong way somehow over the years. If that is the case, I'd like to know how ?

In regards to Wal-Mart- I completely disagree with your assessment. However since its old news I'm not going to rehash this.

As far as Saddle Road, The military is only funding the portion of improvement project within PTA. The rest of the project will be jointly funded by the State of Hawaii and the FHWA.

(Defense Access Road funding is only allocated for projects that have a military use).

I think Bob Orts is about as rational and researched a member as we have ever had on Punaweb.

Relax Aaron.

This thread would've never gotten ugly if certain people refrained from making personal attacks. I have no problem with a educated discussion. However when they hit below the belt, it drastically weakens their arguments.
