Why a Burger King? Now the whole place is going to smell like sour grease all the time. It's bad enough that we've got an L&L stinking up Main Street....

Hmmm Maybe because people want a Burger King? I wont be any worse then the Mexican Food smell...

It's all about choices. If people choose to patronize Burger King and KFC, they will prosper. If some of us find their food unhealthy, smelly, or unpalatable, we will choose not to eat there. Bemoaning the arrival of a new possibility when no one is forced to eat there is anyone's right of free speech, but in the end it's all about freedom of choice. What is wrong with that? If we really want to make a difference in the aesthetic and/or nutritional choices others make, we should try to influence their education rather than imperiously declaring that they shouldn't be able to choose for themselves.

And besides, I like an occasional grilled chicken sandwich at Burger King.[Big Grin]

Most people don't think about it because it's just convenient food we eat.
In my opinion though, places like Burger King and KFC are as guilty of promoting cruelty to animals as Michael Vick. I mean, is torture for sport more inhumane than torture for profit? The way a lot of our food is "factory" produced is nausiating to those who are aware of it. Chickens are kept in tiny stacked cages one on top of the other with feces dripping down onto the animals below. The birds are fed antibiotics and growth hormones.

It is all about choice. I choose not to promote these practices by avoiding these places. I also try to avoid companies like Tyson foods when shopping in a store.

What does bother me somewhat, is when someone complains about other forms of animal cruelty like chicken fighting, or chained up dogs....all the while blissfully unaware of the torture involved in the production of their "nuggets".

See the movie; "fast food nation" which has scenes that take you right onto the "killing floor". It may cause you to re-evaluate how you choose your food. Or not.

Animal rights is kind of like a religion... at one end you have the nuts and at the other you the ones that don't care at all...

I have been to packing plants and slaughter houses more times then I like to remember, and the process is not new, been going on for many many years.

And I prefer my Propaganda to be a little more refined. [Smile]

You're right that slaughtering animals is not new. The difference is that it used to be a more local process that more people took part in. Our food is now manufactured by mega corporations where the waste alone lies piled by the acre. I'm not a vegetarian, and I'm not trying to be a propagandist, but "old school" works for me.

If you can, compare a locally produced egg, from a yardbird free of hormones and antibiotics to a commercial egg..... viva le difference!

I know the difference, but I also know about being hungry... and food in the good old USA is cheap and safe compared to the rest of the world. The system works, and works well, so well the we can stuff ourselves until we pop...

Sure it's nice to have cheap food, but the mass-produced, chemical filled, and yep, cheap gunk pushed out of all the fast food places is causing an epidemic of obese and very unhealthy people. I wouldn't go so far as to call it "safe". Children who subsist on a diet of crap from the likes of McDonalds, KFC, Burger King, Taco Bell, etc. often have severe digestive problems, to the extent some have been found with fecal matter in their upper digestive tracts. No roughage means their pipes never get a natural clear out.

I like the odd order of fries myself and like to have a big steak on my plate at least once a week, everything in moderation, but I'm an adult and can make my own informed choices. What makes me sad is the poor children who are never even shown the proper way to eat, and never know what a good, healthy, home cooked meal tastes like and then grow up to be fat tub of lards.

I would recomend the country called India for a veggie's next trip or better yet move there, everyones' a vegetarian, and the only part of the cattle they use is it's excrement(dried)for their fuel and mabe ferts. Plus they're nicer to their animals than each other!
