Black with white trim, bright blue eyes, fairly young male. Maku'u end of HPP. Hungry, but not starved. Deep bay.
We have three very territorial dogs so cannot keep this very nice mannered dog for long, but wanted to try finding the owners before taking him to the pound.
Called the Human society, they are coming to get him this afternoon.

There are posters up along the storefronts in Malama Marketplace (like on the front of the Fish and Chips place and another on the front of the Chinese BBQ) advertising a lost black dog with white on him. Saw these today. Looks like some kind of border collie or similar. I was not close enough to read the entire flyer as I was sitting in the car...but maybe someone else did. There is a reward for this dog.

there was a sign on the gas pump at Wiki Wiki with a $1000 reward to anyone who found a missing black and white dog. Not sure if this is the same one, but for $1000 it's probably worth a look.

I don't care about a reward, I just want this dog to find his people. This is a really nice dog, clearly used to love and affection with people.

If it is possibly the dog on the flyers, seems a shame not to check the flyers first or call the flyer number and tell them the dog is going to HS ...
Good for you trying to reunite dog with those who love him, Carol.

The dog on the flyers was a border collie type, this guy definitely wasn't. I hope the owners look at the Humane society, or that he was chipped. This was a really nice dog, but I already have 3 spayed females and they weren't having it with a young male dog on the premises. He was too scared of them to even pee in our yard.

When you first saw this dog, why didn't you just shoo it away ??
It may have found it's way back home .
I don't think you did it any favors by bringing it into a hostile environment.

Obie,
He had been trapped in the thick jungle for two days where our fence meets the catty corner neighbors' fence. Two days of crying, whining, howling, and baying. When I finally went in and got him out he attached himself to my heels and would not leave. There are multiple aggressive male pit bulls loose on our road who would have beaten him up given the chance. This was also in a heavy downpour at night by that time, so we put him in one of our crates for the night and attempted to find the owners.
The odds of him finding his way back home unharmed were slim to none, he only wanted to be in our yard with a friendly person. We did not "bring him into a hostile environment" he was safe, fed, had access to water (he was amazingly thirsty and hungry when we got him) and by carefully shuffling dogs between the house, laundry room and crate, he was never at risk from my dogs. But we could not keep him until we could find the owner, because our dogs did not want to share there territory with this dog, and 4 is way too many dogs to deal with. We also do not have a way to check if he was micro chipped, the Humane society does. They informed us that because of his age, breed, and personality he would be an excellent candidate for adoption if they can't reunite him with his owner.

I am an HPP resident who is aware of the canine environment here and who has helped with several hunts for lost dogs of friends and neighbors. Carol absolutely did the right thing. Young and submissive dogs are quite unlikely to find their way home on their own due to the instinct to flee when frightened. They don't stop to figure out which way is home when they get scared. They just run away from the immediate threat.
On a related note, we get many reports of lost dogs who flee their own yards during thunderstorms, and it is a good idea to keep dogs well confined when such weather is expected.
I so admire all the effort you went to Carol. You have a really good heart and let's hope the dog's owner does check with the pound, if it is not chipped.
Good reminder to dog owners, watch out for thunderstorms and get your dog chipped so that the HS will know where home is.
