Will a wire 2 x 4 mesh fence @ 6' high keep out the wild pigs (the 6' is for the wandering human variety)? If so, what's the best spacing on the posting? Should I run barbwire along the exterior base and if so... what elevation?
I've got a remaining 2150' perimeter to enclose, so the least expensive route would be nice.

i know of this good fencing company that did my fence as well as a few other friends. they have done a good job and so far it has served the purpose.[

We put in 4' hog fencing, with a strand of barbed wire at the ground and one on top. No pigs have gotten in except where we discovered a hole (quickly filled). Rob Tucker recently had a really nice fencing job done on his place, for a better price than we paid 4 years ago. Check with him for contact information. BTW, our posts are about 10' apart. It's not easy and not cheap, but provides alot of peace of mind from pigs and wandering unleashed dogs.

our hog wire fence is spaced approximately 8' from post to post. no barb wire. no pigs or loose dogs have wandered in.

Kawika Stevens did our hogwire fence, and he did a great job at a very reasonable price. I can't find his number at the moment, but I'm sure some helpful Punawebber will share it. Posts are 8 to 10 feet apart, and we have no pig intrusions, despite the fact that this area has a lot of them roaming the vacant lots.

Is the hogwire generally done with the metal posts or wood? How are they set when on pâhoehoe?

Your 2x4 and 4x4 wire are great just make sure their the braided (more expensive) not the welded (cheap). You have to put barbed wire against the ground, to stop them from ruiting under the fence. Wood post every hundred feet and every 8 to 10 feet metal tee post. Remeber to put your tee-post's on the inside with metal prongs to the out side, so when the pig is pushing on the wire it is pushing into the post.
