Coconut removal
#1
Any recommendations for someone to cut down coconuts and how much we should pay per tree?

We have several trees and whoever does the job can take the fruits of their labor (we'd just like to keep a few). The trees are pretty high and there are a lot of coconuts now, some may be ready to fall, so we do need someone who knows how to do it safely.

We get lots of requests for the coconuts but no one wants to go up the trees and get them.

Oh yes, this is if Felicia leaves any up there after Monday!

Thanks.

I don't know how much they charge but you can get a free estimate from Wally Ivers 965-1660. He is licensed and has insurance. He has good prices.

I forget the name ,but there is a guy at the farmers market at Luquins parking lot in Pahoa and he does really cheap tree removal. He climbs with spikes and takes them down from the top.You need to remove the mess or you can use someone else to haul it away.
Also Anno (sp) at the Macuu Farmers Market will come and climb your trees for the coco's.He does ours(20+ trees) and climbs even the tallest.

Someone once told me they used green coconuts growing on the palms for target practice, shooting them out of trees, but I dunno if this is a practical approach or not. If a severe storm looks like it is coming in and there is no time for sourcing someone experienced with climbing spikes to go up and clear out cocos near house windows then it might be worth a try. Might even get a rat or two in the process.

Thank you, all! Some good leads here. I forgot to mention we are in HPP and not too far from the next house so I think they might wonder what's going on if we start shooting into the trees.

I just realised my note may have been misleading - we do not want to remove the trees, just the coconuts.

We are just looking for someone who can get up high enough to cut down the coconuts and any dead palm fronds, but leave all the trees in place.

Go to the Maku'u farmers market and go to far end(closest to Hilo) and talk to Anno.He sells coconuts to drink and sells machetes along with organic produce. He is always in the same spot.He does our 20 trees for free, although he does not haul away the fronds. He has us on a regular schedule and climbs the trees barefoot so as to not damage them.

Thanks for the suggestion, I've bought many a refreshing coconut drink off the person in question.
I always wondered where he got his wares. I hope he's also interested in brown ones though.

cheers
