Hokulani Steak House open (Paradise Grill/Legends)
#11
Yea, we refer to it as Charlie's. Went this Sat. Had the porterhouse - delicious and cooked to order, not crazy about the garlic roasted potatoes though, the mixed veggie dish was tastey. Sophie had the rack of ribs and was very pleased. We actually had her "doggie bag" tonight, warmed in the oven - still ono.
We'll go back to "Charlie's"

We went recently on a Sunday. Started out with flat soda, sent them back, but waitress felt they were fine, was condescending. Ordered 2 steak dinners, medium well, came out rare and bleeding, waitress finally took them back, said it was not her fault, as the cook put them out like that as the other two dinners were already done and she did not want to hold them back as the other food would be cold. I don't eat raw steak and it's not my problem they do not know how to co-ordinate the timing of food. This was our 30th anniversary dinner with our two kids. I will never go back, extremely disappointed after spending this kind of money on a steak house that can't even cook a decent steak.

dcl, I have been a Director of Food & Beverage for 25 years before I left the hotel business and opened my company. You would be surprised how many restaurants that call themselves a "steakhouse" actually have no clue about steaks. I have never been there but I guess Hokulani is one of them.

About two months ago six of our family went there for dinner. Of the four steaks ordered three were tough and over cooked, service was slow and a 10 Oz glass of beer was $5.00. Haven't been back and don't plan too. We used to really enjoy going to Charlies, the Paradise and Legends. Things change!!

We had a birthday dinner there just a month ago. Food was delicious. Server was super, very friendly and courteous. Musician was good and not too loud. And we'll go there again, I'm sure.

I like the decor better now than in its previous incarnations, but it's the food & service that count most. Maybe you gotta get the right night or something, I dunno, but we've never had a bad experience there, either as Charley's, Legends, or Hokulani.

aloha, Liz

I've eaten there about 5 times. Food is usually good, but there is one waitress there with a definite "attitude"! We got her the last 2 times and haven't been back since.

Ive been eating there a lot lately. The prime rib is generally good, and the aps, drinks, and sides are tasty as well. They still don't know **** about proper steak temping, and they need to pick some recipes and stick to them. The lack of consistency there is amazing. Maybe it's cause I worked at a outback for 6 years so I'm used to **** being cooked the same day in and day out.

There is a server there that I don't know if it's attitude or what, but she clearly doesn't want to be there. Overall the service seems adequate, but does border on slow. The musician they have there is pretty good. I enjoy his singing.

Had dinner there a couple of weeks ago for the first time. The waitress gushed about the fish special, so Don ordered it. I ordered french dip, other guest ordered prime rib, medium. While eating appitizers, the waitress came back to say that the register hadn't been updated, so when she punched in the fish special, the kitchen prepared a shrimp dish by mistake. OK, we'll have that instead (since everyone else's order was almost ready). When the steak and french dip came out, waitress informed us that staff had begun eating the shrimp dish. so they were firing up a fish special for us. Prime rib was woefully undercooked, and french dip woefully overcooked. We had other evening plans (and little confidence in the kitchen...), so we made do. Fish special arrived after other diners had finished their meals, it came with the wrong sides, and was completeley (and inappropriately) raw in the middle (Chef Ramsey would be kicking the garbage cans in his kitchen if he saw it). Sent the fish back, waited for the re-do, which came out less underdone, but still significantly undercooked. Don picked at the cooked parts, but left about half on the plate. Oh, and throughout most of dinner, the live entertainment was the band saying "testing one-two. test, test." Lets just say we won't be rushing back anytime soon...
