hawaii gun control laws
#71
I don't think I could go through life feeling insecure and vulnerable without a gun.

Like I said earlier; that's why I like it here. That's why the vast majority of people like it here. The statistical probability of someone being caught in a random act of violence here are minute. If I lived in a hardcore urban invironment (with a proliferation of firearms),I might feel differently.

To me; someone outside of law enforcement that feels unsafe without a gun or often finds themself in a life threatening situation could use some training in "life skills" because they aren't doing something right.

While I feel that only cops should carry guns in public, everyone else without a violent or potentially violent history should be allowed to have a shotgun or handgun in their residence for personal protection. I prefer these guns because of their limited range of destruction, and because in a legal sense they span the firearm spectrum which should be safeguarded for those responsible individuals who want to actively hunt or target shoot.

All the people that were raped in Hawaii last yer were not doing something right? Same with home invasions, assualts etc? Please point me to the life skills class that makes the bad people go away.

And don't forget the life skill to avoid isolated beaches and parks. I believe in the life skills that leave me and mine alive and the potential perpetrators in such a condition as to not pose any further threat, be that breathing "preferable", or not depending on whether they hurry me. And Centipede a shotgun is definitely the best residential home defense firearm. A high powered handgun, unless loaded with frangible ammunition "IE, Glaser, or DRT rounds still offers a very high probability of collateral damage. 12 guage with #4 buckshot is optimal.

It also involves the life skill to be able to avoid ever being caught in a situation where one may be obliged to intervene on the behalf of someone else's safety. That's a convenient life skill but I don't consider it a very responsible one. I'm very pleased to have neighbors who would be capable and willing to intervene to protect my property or family. I would feel it a reciprocal responsibility.

Guys, We're still flogging that proverbial dead horse. The guns are evil group will never change their minds, and hopefully the responsible gun owners of the world will never change theirs. It is unfortunate that the situation in Hawaii precludes being able to use any practical means, read easy to learn, method of self defense. And as has been said, maybe we can get the guns are bad crowd to post signs outlining their aversion to firearms, then the rest of us hopefully will never have to discharge a firearm in self defense, as the bottom dwellers of the world will have a vast pool of willing victims to terrorize.

Unless every women in Hawaii is carrying a gun , I don't see how a gun is going to prevent rape.

Even then the gun would have to strategically placed to do any good.

Most home invasions are people looking for drugs or the money that comes from selling drugs.

If you live a good life and avoid places where you shouldn't go anyway, you do not need a concealed weapon !!

Hawaii has reasonable laws that allow gun ownership !

Be happy with the fact that you can own a gun in Hawaii and I will be happy that the laws that are in place make Hawaii the safest place in the USA to live as far as gun deaths !!!

If a burglar was cruising along in Puna and could somehow know (eg by the presence of the abovementioned signs, or by having a buddy check the gun registry) which houses contained guns and which didn't, then which house do you think he'd be more likely to break into?

Very likely the one with no one home and an opportunity to steal a gun.

Cool! A gun! and bullets too!!
Assume the best and ask questions.

I'm not concerned about making every woman safe. I just want those who take responsibility for their own safety to have the option of protecting themselves. Darwin is at work here, if you don't take responsibility for insuring your own safety, there is nothing practical that can be done. If however, you wish to protect yourself, then those options should be available. As has been pointed out here, Hawaii restricts non lethal methods, such as pepper spray or tazers, leaving the responsible woman with only the option of unarmed self defense, or my own personal choice, an edged weapon, employed so as to render the question of future rapes moot. And to answer PaulW any slug with any common sense would opt for the unarmed residence, and those that don't, well thats kind of a self limiting option.
