Continental is making this service expansion in what is still a bleak market, but it might be a good positioning move for when things pick up. The flights from Orange County should be popular, and I believe that is an old Aloha route left void by their liquidation. The 737 is the right size for the job and it IS efficient, but not too comfy for a five hour flight. Continental's 767s on their Honolulu flights to Houston, Guam, and Newark are considered among the very best in the Hawaii market with free meal service and personal TV at every seat, even in coach.

Loved that orange county 737 ... 25 minutes from the cabin.... makes for an easy commute if needed .... 99$ in the day

Kona-OC was a great Aloha route ! Nice drive to Kona with stops for potty breaks! 4 1/2 hrs flight and just when you are going stir crazy - the pilot says and there are the lights of LA....

Jerry if you think the 767 is fun, you aught to fly the triple 7 sometime. Forget coach, business first is the only way to go on trips more than 2 hours. Also, did you know that Continental has the youngest fleet in the country? Food for thought next time you need to go somewhere beyond our islands. Maybe that's why the slogan used to be: One airline can make a difference and Work hard and fly right.

We have known continental since the days of bob six.... most likely just dates us now, but I like em ... they also pioneered the 737 etops trans atlantic speaking of no leg room
never again on an airbus though

Yes, Pam, I have flown the 777 from the East Coast to Europe, but I'm not aware of which, if any, airlines fly it to Hawaii. I know that Delta, Continental, USAir, Hawaiian, and AA do not. Maybe United?
Bullwinkle, I am not a big Airbus fan, either, but the A330s that Delta picked up in the Northwest merger are comfy for the passengers and loaded with entertainment features other former NW aircraft totally lack. Some people question their safety after the Air France velocity indicator disaster, and some pilots don't like their reliance on "fly by wire" technology. Delta uses A330s between Honolulu and Atlanta as well as Minneapolis-St.Paul.

There's a lot of nonsense flying about (sorry for the pun) about Airbus and Boeing. In case you weren't aware, the Boeing 777 is also "fly by wire". People have prejudices, including pilots, and they're usually unfounded. It's often the airline rather than the airplane that you need to worry about.
As for 777s flying to Hawaii, I think United use them between LAX and HNL, at least that's what their website indicated while looking at possible bookings recently.

I didn't mean to inflame Tom.... I have been tracking them since the a300 I have my facts and opinions and as this writing there are at least three unsolved fatal events, almost a thousand fatalities .... I usually wont fly on an aircraft that has one.
