Took it for a test run today... not worth going to yet. Maybe they will improve service and other kinks that are just due to being new. But their menu is exactly as expected, typical local style (lots of things with "two scoops and a side" with a few different items like fish and chips (lousy by my lunchmate's and my evaluation). The salad bar had wonderful fresh lettuce and the dressings were good, but they were all covered with saran wrap and my server told me that was to keep out the CRITTERS! The items that they could have had on the salad bar were missing... like no onions! What a shame (but no surprise) that this elegant and beautiful spot has been painted bright white and is serving mediocre food. The only good thing is that the building is no longer sitting empty. My friends reminded me that we have higher standards than 99% of Hilo diners so it may still fly for some. I have no desire to go back but will try it again and report in a few months.

Hey Devany - just wondering what you consider to be good fish and chips. For me it is very lightly breaded and non-greasy... what you can get in British pubs is perfect for me most of the time. I have given up here in Salt Lake. I always end up with some big fried chuck of something that I have to mine fish out of with my fork. Anyway that said, what would you recommend on the island? Also chips should taste like potato... I have experienced some bizarre fried stuff that was supposed to be chips. And I kid you not, I was actually served Layes Potato Chips at one place here (years ago).

In a different angle, my mom and her friend from California who have fairly sophisticated palates had a wonderful lunch there last week. Just for a different perspective so I would tend to try it out anyway.

I saw such high reviews about the Mongolian Grtll and it was mediocre at best, nothing resembling good Mongolian style grilling. So I always say try a place and see for yourself.

For my money, the best fish and chips on island is at Quinn's almost by the sea in Kona. Ono that is lightly breaded and fried just enough. Ono is still moist and delicious. Never had a bad experience there, makes the long drive to Kona a little more palatable.

Just looked at your blog. Are you guys in american towers there? kind of looks like that's where you are from the view out your window. Good luck on the sale, my nephew in law says real estate is slowly picking up there.

Yep American Towers. Not everyone would be able to identify the location so well! We've lost an amazing amount of money in this market but still have hopes of coming out ahead so we are better off than some. Guess we should be thankful ;-)

Used to work downtown. Look forward to seeing you when you finally break free and get over here. Don't miss anything from UT or SLC.

We have had the fish and chips at the fish market in the Pahoa Marketplace next to Subway. The fish was excellent, the fries were OK.
